Abstract
264,079. Svensson, K. J., and Norling, K. A. P. July 31, 1926. Mineral oils, purifying.-Air or other gases are removed from liquids such as transformer oils by passing the liquid through one or more tanks a, in series or parallel, subdivided by upwardly and downwardly extending partitions c, b, so that the liquid follows a sinuous path. and provided with one or more heating devices f disposed relatively to one or more of the upwardly extending partitions c so that, in use, only liquid which is ascending will contact therewith. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the heater f is so positioned that the heated liquid, in its descent after passing over the top of a partition, pre-heats the ascending cooler liquid on the other side of the partition. To increase this effect the partition c may be of copper or other good heat conductor, while the partitions b may be of poor heat-conducting material, or rendered so by forming them double with a space or heat-insulating packing between. The plant shown in Fig. 1 comprises a centrifugal separator and de-aerating plant for transformer oils. Oil is drawn from the transformer tank j through a pipe k by a pump m and delivered to a centrifugal separator n, and the separated and aerated oil is delivered to the inlet p of the tank a. A valve g is utilized to control the outgoing de-aerated oil. the valve closing when the oil level in the last compartment of the tank a falls below a predetermined level.
