Endless moving sieves. - In screening and filtering apparatus comprising an endless series of perforated plates carried by chains, the plates e, Fig. 2, are curved so as to conform to the path of the band at one end of the apparatus and prevent the formation of spaces between the plates, and each is provided with a. bucket o extending across it. The invention is described as applied to apparatus for removing leaves and other debris from water contained in a well b, Fig. 1. The plates have tongues n which embrace ladder bars f<1>, Fig. 3, carried by chains f with rollers q. The screen is carried by a frame a and is actuated by sprockets g at the upper end. A curved guideway is formed at the lower end of the frame by angle-section strips and a bottom plate r and sealing strips giving a working clearance with the edges of the plates are provided so that the water can pass from the entrance side c of the well to the exit side d only by way of the screen. The elevator buckets o secured to the trailing end of the plates take up large foreign matter that would not adhere to the plates. On the downward run the screen is deflected outwardly and then inwardly by rollers or guides and cleared by jets of water j which carry the debris into discharge shoots k, l. Rails are provided on the curved bottom r to take the chain rollers g and prevent the buckets fouling the bottom r should the chains stretch and drop.
