Abstract
263,644. Shimadzu, G. Jan. 27, 1926. Lead oxides. - Apparatus for producing lead suboxide comprises a rotary drum a having hollow trunnions b, b<1> and driven by a wormwheel d, a current of oxidizing gas such as air under pressure being introduced by a stationary pipe g having downwardly-directed branches g' which may terminate in nozzles g<2> and a terminal nozzle g' so placed with regard to the trunnion b' as to act as an ejector so as to carry .off the oxide particles in the gas stream. Pieces of lead are fed from an automatic feed hopper e to the trunnion b the interior of which is formed as a screw conveyer f which passes the lead on to the drum a. The lead suboxide is separated from the issuing gas by means of rods .h' in a chamber h and a bag-house i, the waste gas being drawn off by an exhauster J. The oxide may be withdrawn periodically at A and B or may first be converted into litharge, for instance by applying heat locally to cause spontaneous oxidation.
