Waffle baking-apparatus. - In waffle-making apparatus, the irons are so made that when the space between the plates is practically closed, and at the moment of closing, the vapours escape through narrow conduits having a sudden change of direction. As shown in Fig. 3, metal edging strips a are secured to the irons c, the strips a having recesses b through which the vapour from the cooking space e is directed substantially at right angles to the plane of the plates. Owing to the sudden change of direction of the vapours, the traction on the batter is reduced and the waste which passes into the recesses b is sheared off when the irons are completely closed, thereby eliminating the usual scraping off of the waste batter.
