263,224. British United Shoe Machinery Co., Ltd., and Cooper, B. P. Sept. 23,1925. Rotary sieves.-A machine for sorting headed metallic fasteners, such as nails, and the like comprises means adapted to sort continuously the contents of a rotary sieve into three parts, material below standard size, material tested by the sieve and found incapable of passing through it, and material which has not been tested. An inclined drum 3 is continuously rotated from a pinion 11 through gearing 13 on the rear end of the drum, and the drum periphery is formed with oblong perforations 15 of a width appropriate to the heads of the fasteners to be tested. Openings 17 at the front end of the drum are formed for the delivery of nails which do not enter the perforations 15, and an inclined tray 31, secured on a rod 33 adjustably fixed by collars 37 on a spindle 35, is adapted to catch fasteners which, having entered the perforations 15 but failed to pass, are carried up by the drum until they fall out of the perforations to pass along the tray out of the machine as a sorted product. The tray 31 is vibrated by a cam 25 driven by the drum 3 and engaging a cam roll 45 carried bv the rod 33. The small size material falls through the perforations 15.
