Abstract

263,018. British Dyestuffs Corporation, Rodd, E., H., and Everatt, R. W. May 12, 1926. Dinitrotoluene setting at temperatures below 20‹ C. is obtained by nitrating in known manner a mixture of mononitrotoluenes containing less than 45 per cent of m-nitrotoluene, crystallizing the product at a suitable temperature, and separating the liquid fraction from the solid. The crystallization temperature depends to some extent on the proportion of m-nitrotoluene in the initial material, but according to examples the nitrated product from a mixture of mononitrotoluenes containing 33 per cent of m-nitrotoluene is crystallized at 18-20‹ C. or at 25‹ C. Specification 17128/13 is referred to.
