Extrusion presses. - The casing of a press of the type comprising a screw or worm is provided with a liner formed of a helix or spiral between the coils of which the liquid passes. The coils may be grooved or notched, and solid or tubular. If tubular, they may be perforated. Liquid for heating, cooling, or other purposes may be passed through them. A plain liner may be interposed between the coils and the casing, such liner or the casing itself being provided with conduits for the .discharge of the liquid. Fig. 1 shows apparatus comprising a casing a, liner g and pressure screw b, the screw being supported at the outlet end by a bush k within the hollow spindle i of a valve f which controls the extrusion of the material under treatment. The coil g may be seated in a spiral groove on the inside of the casing or of the plain intermediate liner when the latter is provided.
