Abstract

The present invention relates to an item of cookware (1) comprising a body (2), the body (2) having an outer wall (5) and a base (3), and a handle (4), wherein the handle (4) is operably movable by horizontal rotation between a first working position in which the handle (4) is oriented to extend away from the outer wall (5) at an upward acute angle relative to the plane of the base (3), and a second stowed position in which a major portion of the length of the handle (4) is located extending across the body (2) substantially parallel with the base (3) or at a downward angle relative to the plane of the base (3). The item of cookware (1) may be nestable with a second item of cookware according to the invention.

Claims

1. An item of cookware comprising a body, the body having an outer wall and a base, and a handle, wherein the handle is operably movable between a first working position in which the handle is oriented to extend away from the outer wall at an upward acute angle relative to the plane of the base, and a second stowed position in which a major portion of the length of the handle is located extending across the body substantially parallel with the base or at a downward angle relative to the plane of the base, wherein the handle is operably movable by horizontal rotation.

2. An item according to claim 1, wherein in the working position the handle is oriented to extend away from the outer wall at an upward acute angle of from 1-35° relative to the plane of the base.

3. An item according to any preceding claim, wherein in the stowed position a major portion of the length of the handle extends across the body at a downward acute angle of from 0-30° relative to the plane of the base.

4. An item according to any preceding claim, wherein the handle comprises an upper portion and a lower portion.

An item according to claim 4, wherein the lower portion is configured to ensure that the handle is orientated to extend away from the outer wall at an upward angle relative to the plane of the base in the working position and is located extending across the body substantially parallel with the base or at a downward angle relative to the plane of the base in the stowed position.

6. An item according to claim 5, wherein the lower portion has an upper surface which extends upwardly from the outer wall of the body at an upward acute angle relative to the plane of the base.

7. An item according to any one of claims 4 to 6, wherein the upper portion is secured to the lower portion.

8. An item according to any one of claims 4 to 6, wherein the upper and lower portion are integral.

9. An item according to any preceding claim, wherein the handle comprises a locking means for locking the handle in the stowed position and/or the working position.

10. An item according to claim 9, wherein the locking means comprises a lever, a resilient component and at least one recess.

11. An item according to claim 10, wherein the lever comprises a lower engaging portion for extending into the recess.

12. An item according to claim 11, wherein the lever has an L-shape.

13. An item according to any one of claims 10 to 12, wherein the resilient component comprises spring steel.

14. An item according to any one of claims 10 to 13, wherein the recess is located such that it is able to receive the lever when the handle is located in the working position.

15. An item according to any one of claims 10 to 14, wherein the recess is configured to prevent the handle from rotating when it is located in the working position.

16. An item according to claim 15, wherein the recess does not comprise a lateral opening.

17. An item according to claim 16, wherein the recess has a U-shape.

18. An item according to any one of clams 10 to 17, wherein the locking means comprises more than one recess.

19. An item according to claim 18, wherein the recesses are located such that they are able to receive the lever when the handle is located in the working position or the stowed position.

20. An item according to claim 19 wherein the locking means comprises a recess for receiving the lever in the working position having no lateral openings and a recess for receiving the lever in the stowed position comprising one or more lateral openings.

21. A nest of cookware items according to any one of claims 1 to 20.

22. A kit of at least two nestable cookware items according to any one of claims 1 to 20, wherein the body of each item of cookware has a different depth and/or diameter.

23. A method of nesting items of cookware, the method comprising the steps of: a) providing two items of cookware according to a first aspect of the present invention, the body of one item of cookware having a smaller diameter and/or depth than the body of the other item of cookware; b) placing the base of the smaller item of cookware on the base of the larger item of cookware with the handle of the smaller item of cookware in the second stowed position and the handle of the larger item of cookware in the first working position; and c) moving the handle of the larger item of cookware to the second stowed position so that the handle extends across the bodies of the items of cookware.

17 The method according to claim 23, wherein step (c) comprises moving the handle of the larger item of cookware to be aligned with and disposed directly above the handle of the smaller item of cookware
