Abstract

A forearm exerciser device comprises two hand grips A, B, connected by a central bar C. The central bar C has flexible and elastic qualities, such that upon gripping the hand grips a user D may perform exercises by applying twisting, bending or stretching to the device and thereby flexing the central bar C. After fexing, the central bar C will return to its original state of alignment. The central bar C may comprise a spring, an elastomeric compound or a rubber-based compound.

Description

Forearm Exerciser Device The present invention relates to a forearm exerciser device, in particular to improvements in the range of directions in which resistive forces are provided by the device, during training of the forearm and the wrist.
Forearm exercisers are known and used to improve the strength of the muscles within the forearm, often by way of applying a resistive force during the gripping motion of the hand, or by a resistance applied when moving the hand or wrist in some other single, linear direction.
Known devices can be in the form of 2 levers connected by a coiled spring, which applies a resistance when the user grips the device, or by a brace fitted to the user's arm, which offers a resistance to the user when flexing his/her wrist. These devices, and others which provide a resistance to a single plane of movement only allow the exercising of those muscles recruited within those single plane movements and therefore do not offer resistance training for the wide range of muscles within the forearm, which are recruited during other movements of the hand and wrist.
The present invention seeks to overcome at least some of the limitations of the prior art by providing a device which offers resistance to a wide range of motion in the hand and wrist and thereby offers resistance training to a wide range of muscles within the forearm.
According to the present invention there is provided a forearm training device comprised of two hand grips, which are positioned perpendicularly to, and connected by a central bar.
The bar is flexible such that upon the user gripping the hand grips of the device, he or she may twist, stretch or bend the central bar, and said bar will flex in a variety of directions, while offering some resistance against the user's movement, thereby allowing the user to perform forearm resistance exercises against the device's resistive forces.
The bar may consist of a spring or other material with similar flexible and elastic qualities to that of a spring, such as an elastomeric compound or rubber-based compound, so that when the user ceases to apply a twisting, bending, stretching or other force, the device returns to its original, normal shape and alignment.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a plan view of a forearm exerciser device according to the present invention; Figures 2 and 3 are perspective views of a forearm exerciser according to the present invention, showing some examples of ways in which the device may be flexed during use.
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the drawings.
Reference is now made to Figure 1 which shows a plan view of the exerciser in its normal state. The exerciser includes two hand grips A and B. The hand grips A and B are connected by a central bar C, which is positioned perpendicularly to the hand grips A and B. Figure 2 shows the exerciser device during one example of an exercise which may be performed by a user D, whereby the user D grips the hand grips A and B, while the central bar C offers resistance to a bending motion.
Figure 3 shows the exerciser device during another example of an exercise which may be performed by a user D whereby the user D grips the hand grips A and B, while the central bar C offers resistance to a twisting motion.
