Abstract
The present invention relates to a hydration device comprising a fluid container 100 and a storage compartment 2. The fluid container has an elongated cylinder defining an internal volume, having an outer face with a plurality of grip sections 13 for a user’s hand. The storage compartment is arranged to secure onto the second end of the container. The first end of the fluid container comprises a drinking spout 10 with a fluid passage from the internal volume. The spout is arranged to move from a first position where the fluid passage is open to a second position where the fluid passage is blocked. The drinking spout may include a pivot or a telescoping tube. The storage compartment may be expandable to provide different sized compartments. The device may also be provided with a lanyard attachment point.
Description
A HYDRATION DEVICE
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a hydration device, in particular a device for providing hydration to an active user; more particularly but not exclusively a means of providing hydration to an active user without access to portable storage options.
Backaround
In many circumstances in many societies across the world there is an increasing need for and awareness of the importance of hydration.
Maintaining adequate hydration can be problematic, in particular when a person is engaged in activities. Such activities, for example, may constitute a part of an exercise regime, as well as other activities associated with work and leisure.
In particular the person may find that they are required to wear certain clothing, and/or may not have pockets or means to store or transport items. Such items may be necessary for use when the exercise is finished, or in action, and may include, without limitation medical equipment such as pills, plasters, keys, or mobile electronic devices.
As a result the user may be forced to carry both a hydration device and necessary items, which will impact their ability to enjoy activities.
Prior Art
US 2018 0 016 051 (BUEHRLE) discloses a canteen comprising a main body; wherein the main body comprises: two cavities, a top cavity and a bottom cavity; wherein the two cavities are longitudinally disposed of each other, such that a bottom portion of the top cavity is disposed above a roof portion of the bottom cavity; wherein a volume of the bottom cavity extends into a volume of the top cavity in a manner that is radially symmetrical about a shared central longitudinal axis of both the top cavity and the bottom cavity.
US 2012 0 193 316 (STARKS) comprises a bottle with an intermediate threaded coupler between a liquid bottle and a storage compartment, said coupler directed to systems, processes, machines, and other means that allow an individual to store food, liquid and medicine in a single container, to provide safely segregated compartments such that there is no cross-contamination between the food, liquid and medicine.
US 2006 0 201 900 (DE FRANCESCO) discloses a beverage bottle comprising: a top body portion; an intermediate body portion; and a bottom body portion; wherein the intermediate body portion and the bottom body portion are coupled to each other to form a hollow detachable bottom compartment of the beverage bottle, and wherein the top body portion is coupled to the hollow detachable bottom compartment of the beverage bottle.
The present invention arose in order to overcome problems suffered by existing devices. Summary of the Invention According to the present invention there is provided a hydration device comprising a fluid container and a storage compartment, wherein the fluid container comprises an elongated cylinder defining an internal volume, having an outer face with a plurality of grip sections for a user's hand, the storage compartment is arranged to secure onto the second end of the container, and the first end of the fluid container comprises a drinking spout with a fluid passage from the internal volume, the spout arranged to move from a first position where the fluid passage is open to a second position where the fluid passage is blocked.
In this way the device of the present invention provides an easy to use fluid hydration means, that is well-suited to active exercise regimes, in particular where a user may be envisaged to be remote from any storage facility and/or wearing sports clothing that is lacking in storage options; whereby without limitation the grip sections mean that the device is easy to carry and the storage compartment enables storage of personal items such as a key. Additionally or alternatively the device may be envisaged to be robust and waterproof in a plurality of active situations.
In some embodiments of the device the grip sections comprise raised and lowered portions. This may mean that the device is easier to hold and carry.
In some such embodiments these raised and lowered portions comprise indented ribs. Such ribs may be envisaged to run around the outer diameter of the device, or fluid container in particular.
In some embodiments of the device the first end comprises a narrowed collar for receipt of a displaceable spout unit. This collar may be envisaged to include threading so as to be capable of dismounting from the container, for cleaning, maintenance or filling purposes.
In some embodiments of the device the spout comprises a pivot. Such pivot may enable the spout to pivot down, for example in an overcentre mechanism, and/or against a resiliently deformable member, so as to form a closure seal and/or a locking means into the second position.
In some embodiments of the device the spout comprises a telescoping concentric tube. Such tube may allow the spout to have a first part that pulls out of a second part, thereby opening the passage. For example the first part may be an upper part and may contain a cap, which cap is thereby pressed into a closure position in the second position, when depressed against the second part.
In some embodiments of the device the container comprises a base with an external male thread. In this way the base be used to screw onto and into the compartment. In such manner a plurality of compartments may be screwed onto the container, and/or the container may be used with any compartment, with no compromising.
In some embodiments of the device the compartment comprises an elevated wall with an internal female thread. Such may be envisaged to enable a cup-like compartment with an open face, into which items may be dropped or placed.
In some embodiments the wall may be expandable, for example concertina folding, or coaxially telescopic. This may enable different depths of wall to be achieved and thereby different size compartments.
In some further embodiments the device may comprise a lanyard attachment point, which may enable a user to carry the device without trouble, for example on a belt, wrist strap or harness. It may be envisaged that the present invention may encompass the device connected with such items in addition or the alternative.
In some further embodiments the device may comprise one or more holes for receipt of a user's hand, for aiding inn carrying the device in use.

Detailed Description of Figures
With reference to the figures there is shown an embodiment of hydration device 99 generally comprising a fluid container 100 and a storage compartment 2, wherein the fluid container comprises an elongated cylinder defining an internal volume, having an outer face with a plurality of indented grip sections 13, the storage compartment 2 arranged to screw onto the second end of the container, and the first end of the fluid container comprises a drinking spout 10 with a fluid passage A from the internal volume, the spout arranged to move from a first position where the fluid passage is open to a second position where the fluid passage is blocked.
In this way the device provides a single item for carriage when exercising, meaning that a user can carry solely the device when wearing exercise clothing for example, or which lacks pockets.
In particular reference to the pictured embodiment the embodiment of the container 100 comprises a translucent plastic vessel 1, formed in acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ASS) or similar plastic material, and an opaque spout unit 9 screwed onto the first end thereof.
The vessel 1 may be envisaged to be blow or injection moulded, as a monolithic part.
At the second end the container includes a base 3 that has rounded edges and a flat or indented bottom, in this way the container may be rested on a surface when the compartment is detached.
At the first end the container includes a narrowed collar for receipt of a separate and separable spout unit 9. The spout unit includes indented grip sections 7 which extend longitudinally down the container.
The spout unit has an internal female thread, that may be envisaged to be of a common diameter to drinking vessels.
The narrowed collar has an external male thread, which may be envisaged to be of a common diameter to drinking vessels. In this way the spout unit may be replaced easily if necessary.
The spout unit provides the through passage of fluid from the container's inner volume. The spout unit 9 comprises a body and a spout, wherein the body is arranged to screw onto the collar, and the spout is arranged to enable passage along an axis from the internal volume.
The spout comprises a sports bottle spout, comprising an axially arranged coaxially telescopic cylinders, with a tolerance or interference fit between with an upper cylinder of two cylinders comprising an extended diameter mushroom cap 11.
In this way in use a user would grip the cap 11 and pull it axially away from the vessel and its internal volume so as to open the passage and depress it axially towards the internal volume so as to seal the passage.
Other embodiments may have a passage provided through a tubular spout that is hinged at a proximal end to the body of the spout unit so as to be hinged upwards to open the passage and allow fluid through the spout and so as to be hinged down so as to close the passage, wherein a resiliently deformable mechanism may provide a locking means when the spout is hinged down against the body.
The container has a cylindrical form comprising a wall 12 around the internal volume. The wall provides an outer surface that is arranged to provide grip to the user when holding the device for hydration and/or travelling purposes. The grip sections are provided by indented lateral circumferential indentations 13.
Three different embodiments of the compartment 2 are comprised of an open-faced cup, with an elevated wall 16, of three different heights, each with a smooth outer face and a longitudinally ribbed internal face 6.
The top of the wall is bonded to a collar 4 with an internal screw thread for engagement with the male screw thread at the base of the container.
The invention has been described by way of examples only and it will be appreciated that variation may be made to the above-mentioned embodiments without departing from the scope of protection as defined by the claims.
Claims (11)
- Claims 1. A hydration device comprising a fluid container and a storage compartment, wherein the fluid container comprises an elongated cylinder defining an internal volume, having an outer face with a plurality of grip sections for a user's hand, the storage compartment is arranged to secure onto the second end of the container, and the first end of the fluid container comprises a drinking spout with a fluid passage from the internal volume, the spout arranged to move from a first position where the fluid passage is open to a second position where the fluid passage is blocked.
- 2. A hydration device according to claim 1 wherein the grip sections comprise raised and lowered portions.
- 3. A hydration device according to claim 2 wherein the grip sections comprise Raised and lowered portions comprise indented ribs.
- 4. A hydration device according to any preceding claim wherein the first end comprises a narrowed collar for receipt of a displaceable spout unit.
- 5. A hydration device according to any preceding claim wherein the spout comprises a pivot.
- 6. A hydration device according to any preceding claim wherein the spout comprises a telescoping concentric tube.
- 7. A hydration device according to any preceding claim wherein the container compriaea a base with an external male thread.
- 8. A hydration device according to any preceding claim wherein the compartment comprises an elevated wail with an iniernal female thread.
- 9. A hydration device according to claim 8 wall is expandable to enable different depths of wall to be achieved and thereby different size compartments.
- 10. A hydration device according to any preceding claim comprises a lanyard affachment point,
- 11. A hydration device according to claim 10 comprising a belt, strap or harness in order to carry the device handsfree.
