Description

A WALL-MOUNTABLE VALVE ASSEMBLY FOR
A BATH OR A BASIN
This invention relates to a wall-mountable valve assembly for a bath or a basin Wall-mountable valve assemblies for baths or basins are known. The known wall-mountable valve assemblies are only available in a restricted number of different designs. Often the available designs are not sufficient for the requirements of consumers.
It is an aim of the present invention to avoid or reduce the above mentioned problem.
Accordingly, in one non-limiting embodiment of the present invention there is provided a wall-mountable valve assembly for a bath or a basin, which wall-mountable valve assembly comprises: (I) a first valve block for receiving hot and cold water and for providing output water at a temperature required by a user of the bath or the basin: (ii) a second valve block for receiving the output water and outputting the output water to a spout for the bath or the basin: and (iii) connecting means for connecting the first valve block to the second valve block, and wherein: (iv) the second valve block comprises a spout-receiving aperture for receiving the spout; (v) the second valve block has at least one connecting side; (vi) the connecting side of the second valve block comprises an inlet for receiving the output water from the first valve block; (vii) the first valve block has at least one connecting side; and (viii) the connecting means connects the first valve block to the second valve block such that the connecting side of the first valve block is connected to the connecting side of the secood valve block.
The wall-mountable valve assembly of the present invention is advantageous in that the first and second valve blocks can be connected together in various relative positions. This enables the wall-mountable valve assembly to be configured in different overall physical shapes and with different component parts. Thus the wall-mountable valve assembly of the present invention is able to provide considerably more design alternatives than known wall-mountable valve assemblies, and this is what consumers require for their baths and basins.
The wall-mountable valve assembly may be one in which the connecting side of the first valve block is connected to the connecting side of the second valve block such that the connecting side of the first valve block abuts against the connecting side of the second valve block. The abutting connecting sides facilitate easy leak-proof connection, whilst at the same time looking aesthetically pleasing.
The connecting means may be a push fit connecting means. Other types of connecting means may be employed.
When the connecting means is a push fit connecting means, then the push fit connecting means may be a pin and peg push fit connecting means. Other types of push fit connecting means may be employed.
When the push fit connecting means is a pin and peg push fit connecting means, then the wall-mountable valve assembly may be one in which the pin and peg push fit connecting means comprises a pin which extends from the connecting side of the second valve block, and a peg which locks to the pin by clipping over the pin and which locates in a slot in the first valve block when the peg is in position on the pin. Other types of pin and peg connecting means may be employed.
The wall-mountable valve assembly may be one in which the second valve block comprises two vertical sides, a top side, a bottom side, a front face and a rear face. The spout-receiving aperture is preferably in the front face but it may be positioned elsewhere if desired.
The first valve block may be configured to mix the hot and the cold water to provide the output water. If solely cold water is required, then the hot water will not be mixed with the cold water for the duration of the requirement of the cold water.
The second valve block may be such that it has only one of the inlets for receiving the output water from the first valve block. Alternatively, the second valve block may have a plurality of the inlets for receiving the output water from the first valve block. In this case, any one of the inlets that is not required for use may be configured for being blanked off by a blanking member. The blanking member may be a screw threaded blanking member or a welded blanking member. Other types of blanking member may be employed. Where there are a plurality of the inlets, then the various inlets may be positioned on different sides of the second valve block.
The first valve block may be one which has a single outlet for the output water.
Alternatively, the first valve block may have a plurality of outlets for the output water. In this case, any one of the outlets that is not required for use may be configured for being blanked off by a blanking member. The blanking member may be a screw threaded blanking member or a welded blanking member. Other types of blanking member may be employed. Each blanking member for the first valve block may be the same as each blanking member for the second valve block.

Figure 1 also shows how the peg 20 is formed by a screw having a screw head formation 50 which enables the peg 22 to have a screw thread (not shown) which screws into a screw threaded bore 52 in the second valve block 6.
Figure 3 shows how the spout 8 is formed with a fixing plate 54 which fits into a complementarily shaped recess 56 in the first valve block 4. The fixing plate 54 has four apertures 58 for receiving four screws 60 which pass through the apertures 58 and into screw threaded bores 62 in the base of the recess 56. A sealing ring 64 is squashed between the rear face of the fixing plate 54 and the base of the recess 56. The sealing ring 64 surrounds the spout-receiving aperture 12 and thus ensures that the spout 8 is able to be connected to the first valve block 4 in a water-tight sealed manner. A backplate 66 fits over the spout 8 and masks the fixing components 58, 60, 62. The backplate 66 is provided with a rectangular aperture 68 which enables the backplate 66 to slide over the spout 8.
Figure 6 shows that the wall-mountable valve assembly 2 also comprises a grub screw 70, an 0-ring 72 and a plug 74.
The abutting location of the first valve block 4 with the second valve block 6 is facilitated by dowels 76.
In subsequent Figures, similar parts as in Figures 1 -3 have been given the same reference numerals for ease of comparison and understanding.
