Abstract

A bilaminate self-adhesive label for releasing aromas like perfume 10 wherein each sheet is formed by a base layer 1 overlaid by a plastic layer 2, and a fragrance layer 3 is disposed between the sheets. The plastic layer has a thickness of 12µm. The paper may be renewable-source paper and the plastic layer 2 is preferably made of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The sum of the thicknesses of the plastic layers is 24µm which is considerably lower than the amount of plastic used in other labels. The plastic layers form a barrier to the capillary action of the paper layer. Using paper instead of a thicker plastic layer means the amount of plastic used is reduced and the environmental impact is lower.

Description

"AROMA-RELEASING BILAMINATE SELF-ADHESIVE LABEL" [0001]The present invention refers to a self-adhesive label for releasing aromas or fragrances, particularly a self-adhesive label comprising a bilaminate construction, each sheet formed by a FSC paper structure having fine thickness, associated to a polyester plastic film (PET) of fine thickness and containing, between the two sheets, fragrances to be released.
BACKGROUND
[0002] The aroma-releasing labels are usually treated as distribution media for product samples, in particular fragrances, in an individualized manner. Said labels are constructed in self-adhesive form or already applied on an end surface which may be, for example, a magazine, a card or an advertising booklet.
[0003]Accordingly, these aroma-releasing labels known in the state of the art comprise a first layer of plastic film usually 32pm thick, acting as a waterproof base on which a fragrance layer is applied, the aroma of which is to be released, and, lastly, a second layer of plastic film, usually 23pm thick, is disposed on the fragrance layer acting as a protective and waterproof layer, meaning the aroma is released only when this second layer of plastic film is fully or partially pulled off from the fragrance layer. Therefore, with this construction the labels already known have a total thickness of 55pm of plastic material, generating more residues for the environment.
[0004] One example of this type of label can be seen in document BRMU9000686-0 which refers to a bilaminate, double-face, biodegradable adhesive, for the meeting and separation of flexible parts for releasing aroma. This adhesive is formed by two outer protective sheets obtained preferably from siliconized glassline-type paper, thereafter, having two layers of adhesive. Between the layers of adhesive are adhesive sheets made of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP), polyester or a cellulose-based biodegradable sheet. Between the two adhesive sheets is a framed adhesive layer and aromatizing microcapsules. All these layers of plastic materials, papers and adhesives make this label thick and, though biodegradable paper can be used in one of the layers, the label is endowed with a large amount of plastic materials.
[0005] In contrast, document BRM1J8701825-0 describes a self-adhesive label, formed by a waterproof plastic film whose outermost part bears an acrylic-based adhesive layer, protected by a fine protective film. A plurality of emulsion elements or aromatic capsules is applied to the innermost surface of the waterproof plastic film. The periphery of the upper surface of this plastic film waterproof further bears peripheral strands of adhesives which, in turn, are overlaid by an upper plastic film.
[0006] In this case also the self-adhesive label known in the state of the art is thick and bears a large amount of plastic material, which makes it a product that is hard to recycle after use and disposal thereof.
OBJECTIVES OF THE INVENTION
[0007]Accordingly, the objective of the present invention is to provide a bilaminate self-adhesive label for releasing aromas comprising a bilaminate construction, each sheet formed by an FSC paper structured base layer of fine thickness, that is, renewable-source paper and certified as Forest Stewardship Council, associated to a plastic layer made of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET), of fine thickness and containing, between the two sheets, fragrances to be released.
[0008] A further objective of the present invention is to provide a bilaminate self-adhesive label for releasing aromas containing an amount of plastic material 55% less than similar labels known in the state of the art.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0009] Therefore, the object of this invention is a bilaminate self-adhesive label for releasing aromas, each sheet formed by a base layer overlaid by a plastic layer and a fragrance layer disposed between the sheets, each plastic layer comprising a thickness of 12pm in recycled plastic material and each base layer is made of paper, preferably renewable-source paper.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0010] Figure 1 -schematically illustrates the composition of labels known in the state of the art, presenting a large thickness and excessive amount of plastic material; and [0011] Figure 2 -schematically illustrates the structure of the self-adhesive label that is the object of the present invention, having a fine thickness and a significantly smaller amount of plastic material.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0012]As can be seen in figure 1, the aroma-releasing labels already known in the state of the art comprise, as a rule, a waterproof base A plastic layer, and a cover B plastic layer, also waterproof, such that between the layers an amount of fragrance C is disposed, the aroma of which is intended for release when the cover B plastic layer is totally or partially pulled off from the amount of fragrance C. [0013] These labels can be distributed individually, disposed glued in magazines, cards or advertising booklets. So that the fragrance does not pass, by capillarity, through the means on which the label is associated, the base A layer is made of waterproof plastic material and is usually 32pm thick, to guarantee seal tightness of the fragrance layer C. [0014] In the same way, so that the fragrance layer C does not undesirably exude its aroma, that is, before the user pulls off the cover B layer, this cover B layer is also made of waterproof plastic material, usually 23pm thick.
[0015] Thus, the total thickness of the base A layer and cover B layer is 55pm, that is, a large amount of plastic material is used. Not to mention the plastic adhesive applied to the base A layer for it to associate itself to the other surface, such as a magazine, for example.
[0016] On the other hand, according to a preferred embodiment and as can be seen in figure 2, the objective of the bilaminate self-adhesive label for releasing aromas 10, object of the present invention, is to use a significantly smaller amount of plastic material while guaranteeing seal tightness of the fragrance layer 3.
[0017]Therefore, the bilaminate self-adhesive label for releasing aromas 10 comprises two sheets, each sheet formed by a base layer 1 overlaid by a plastic layer 2 and a fragrance layer 3 disposed between the sheets. Being self-adhesive, the base layer 1 of one of the sheets has a fine amount of adhesive on its surface opposite the surface receiving the plastic layer 2.
[0018] Each base layer 1 is made of paper, preferably renewable-source paper and certified as FSC -Forest Stewardship Council.
[0019]A plastic layer 2 is applied on each base layer 1. Each plastic layer 2 comprises a thickness of 12pm of recycled plastic material, preferably polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and another type of recycled plastic can be used, thus totaling a thickness of 24pm in plastic layers 2, that is, of recycled plastic.
[0020]This construction of the label 10 therefore makes use of 24pm and thickness of plastic material meaning a reduction and 55% in the amount of plastic used, if compared with similar labels known in the state of the art which present a total thickness of 55pm in the plastic layers. Additionally, the plastic used in the plastic layers 2 of the label 10 object of the present invention is recycled PET. Therefore, the significantly lower amount of plastic and the use of recycled PET cause a lower environmental impact of this label 10 relative to the labels known and used thus far.
[0021] Further in relation to the construction of the label 10, object of this invention, the use of plastic layers 2 having a lesser thickness is possible because the base layers 1, made of paper, help in the barrier for the capillarity of the fragrance layer 3, this barrier being provided mainly by the plastic layers 2. Therefore, the seal tightness of the fragrance 3 disposed between the sheets is guaranteed to be successful and, moreover, it is possible to reduce the amount of plastic material by 55% used in such.
[0022] It is also emphasized that the base layers 1 of the label 10 enable the separation and joint of the sheets continuously, that is, whenever the user wishes to release the aroma of the fragrance 3. In these cases, when the sheets are joined again, the seal tightness in the release of the aroma is always kept by the sheet which covers the fragrance layer 3.
[0023] Having described an example of a preferred embodiment, it should be understood that the scope of the present invention encompasses other possible variations, being limited solely by the content of the accompanying claims, potential equivalents being included therein.
