Abstract

A subject device (1) comprising a touchscreen (19) is used by the subject of a hearing test. The subject device (1) contains a loudspeaker (18) operable to output audio test tones. In use, the subject device (1) displays images associated with a hearing test whilst the loudspeaker outputs a series of audio test tones. User inputs in response to the test tones are detected in order to assess the user's hearing and animation is triggered on touchscreen (19). The series of audio tones output by the subject device (1) are in correspondence with a configuration signal received from an administrator device (2), generated in response to administrator variation of configuration settings for the hearing test.

A hearing test system as claimed in claim 1 wherein the user interface of the subject device comprises a touchscreen operable to detect user inputs in by detecting user touches of the touchscreen. A hearing test system as claimed in claim 2 wherein a user touch is detected as a touch event by the touchscreen and is determined to take place at a time coincident with the start of the touch event. A hearing test system as claimed in any preceding claim/ wherein if the test engine is operable to react to a received stimulus trigger key, the stimulus trigger key is generated by the administrator device or another device and the stimulus trigger key identifies the nature of the test tone. A hearing test system as claimed in any preceding claim wherein if the test engine is operable to generate a stimulus trigger key, the stimulus trigger key identifies the nature of the test tone to be output and the test tones are output by internal loudspeakers of the subject device or by external loudspeakers directly connected to and controlled by the subject device. A hearing test system as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the output sequence of test tones is determined randomly or pseudo randomly in response to configuration signal. A hearing test system as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the test engine is operable to determine whether a user input occurs during a reaction interval following the output of a test tone. A hearing test system as claimed in claim 7 wherein the test engine comprises a reaction switch operable in response to the output of a test tone or the generation or receipt of a stimulus trigger key to time the reaction interval.
