Abstract
A frac plug system downhole tool and method of securing a frac plug system in a wellbore. A mandrel extending from a first end to a second end. A setting assembly is on the first end of the mandrel and is movable along the mandrel. An anchor is at the second end of the mandrel and is expandable to engage the wellbore. A gas generates a pressure to move the setting assembly along the mandrel to expand the anchor at the second end of the mandrel.
Claims (15)
1. A method of securing a frac plug system (54, 700, 800, 900, 1000) in a wellbore (34), comprising: disposing the frac plug system (54, 700, 800, 900, 1000) in the wellbore (34), the frac plug system (54, 700, 800, 900, 1000) including: a mandrel (80) extending from a first end (118) to a second end (119); a setting assembly (760, 802, 902, 1002) at a first end (118) of the mandrel (80), wherein the setting assembly (760, 802, 902, 1002) is movable along the mandrel (80); an anchor (63, 720, 820, 920, 1020) at a second end (119) of the mandrel (80), the anchor (720, 820, 920, 1020) expandable to engage the wellbore (34); and generating a pressure in a gas of the frac plug system (54, 700, 800, 900, 1000) to move the setting assembly (760, 802, 902, 1002) from the first end (118) to the second end (119) to expand the anchor (720, 820, 920, 1020) at the second end (119) of the mandrel (80).
2. The method of claim 1, wherein the anchor (720, 820, 920, 1020) is expandable to engage the wellbore (34) as a unitary piece,
3. The method of claim 2, further comprising moving the setting assembly (760, 860, 960, 1060) against the slip to expand the anchor (63, 720, 820, 920, 1020) radially.

The method of claim 1, further comprising a pressure chamber (830, 918, 1032) in the setting assembly (760, 860, 960, 1060) and an activation chamber (124, 134) in the mandrel (80) having the gas and in fluid communication with the pressure chamber (830, 918, 1032) via an opening in the mandrel (80), wherein generating the pressure in the gas moves the setting assembly (760, 860, 960, 1060) from the first end (118) of the mandrel (80) to the second end (119) of the mandrel (80).
5. The method of claim 1, wherein the setting assembly further comprises a frusto- conical setting cone (760) movable from the first end (118) to the second end (119) to expand the anchor (720, 820, 920, 1020).
6. The method of claim 1, wherein the setting assembly (760, 860, 960, 1060) further comprises a collar (806) and a setting member (804) having first frusto-conical surface (808) receptive to the collar (806) and a second frusto-conical surface (810) receptive to the anchor (720, 820, 920, 1020).
7. The method of claim 1, wherein the setting assembly (760, 860, 960, 1060) further comprises first setting member (904) , a second setting member (906) having a frusto- conical surface (910) and a member (908) that couples the first setting member (904) to the second setting member (906).

The method of claim 1, wherein the setting assembly (760, 860, 960, 1060) further comprises a first setting cone (1004) and a second setting cone (1006) between the first setting cone (1004) and the anchor (720, 820, 920, 1020), wherein the first setting cone (1004) moves against the second setting cone (1006) to expand the anchor (720, 820, 920, 1020).

A frac plug system (54, 700, 800, 900, 1000), comprising: a mandrel (80) extending from a first end (118) to a second end (119); a setting assembly (760, 802, 902, 1002) on the first end (118) of the mandrel (80); an anchor (720, 820, 920, 1020) at the second end (119) of the mandrel (80), the anchor (720, 820, 920, 1020) expandable to engage the wellbore (34); and a gas for moving the setting assembly (760, 802, 902, 1002) along the mandrel (80) to expand the anchor (720, 820, 920, 1020) at the second end (119) of the mandrel (80).
10. The frac plug system (54, 700, 800, 900, 1000) of claim 9, wherein the anchor (720, 820, 920, 1020) is radially expandable to engage the wellbore (34) as a unitary piece.

The frac plug system (54, 700, 800, 900, 1000) of claim 9, further comprising a pressure chamber (803, 918, 1032) in the setting assembly (760, 802, 902, 1002) and an activation chamber (124, 134) in the mandrel (80) having the gas and in fluid communication with the pressure chamber (7803, 918, 1032) via an opening in the mandrel (80), wherein a pressure generated in the gas moves the setting assembly (760, 802, 902, 1002).
12. The frac plug system (54, 700, 800, 900, 1000) of claim 9, wherein the setting assembly (760, 802, 902, 1002) further comprises a setting cone (760) having a frusto-conical surface (719) that is moved against the anchor (63, 720, 820, 920, 1020).
13. The frac plug system (54, 700, 800, 900, 1000) of claim 9, wherein the setting assembly (760, 802, 902, 1002) further comprises a collar (806) and a setting member (804) having first frusto-conical surface (808) receptive to the collar (806) and a second frusto- conical surface (810) receptive to the anchor (63, 720, 820, 920, 1020).
14. The frac plug system (54, 700, 800, 900, 1000) of claim 9, wherein the setting assembly (760, 802, 902, 1002) further comprises first setting member (904), a second setting member (906) having a frusto-conical surface (910) and a member (908) that couples the first setting member (904) to the second setting member (906).
15. The frac plug system (54, 700, 800, 900, 1000) of claim 9, wherein the setting assembly (760, 802, 902, 1002) further comprises a first setting cone (1004) and a second setting cone (1006) between the first setting cone (1004) and the anchor (63, 720, 820, 920, 1020), wherein the first setting cone (1004) moves against the second setting cone (906) to expand the anchor (63, 720, 820, 920, 1020).
