Abstract

A cap device 99 comprising; a crown 2 with a peripheral edge defining a head receiving opening; a plurality of peaks 1; and a fastening means 3 arranged to permit the removable fastening of a peak to the crown at a position proximate the peripheral edge with the peak extending outwardly from the crown. The fastening means comprises a zipper 5 and an elongated rectangular pocket (14, Fig. 2). A first part of the zipper (41, Fig. 2) is located within a pocket at the peripheral edge and a second part of the zipper 4 is located on the peak. The pocket comprises an open lower edge and three closed edges, such that the pocket hides the first part of the zipper when no peak is fastened to the crown. The crown comprises a cable adjustable securement means (9, Fig. 6) to adjust the fit of the cap. The pocket may comprise a hook and loop material such as Velcro (RTM) to close its lower edge.

Description

A CAP DEVICE
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a cap device, in particular a device providing a modifiable, rearrangeable, multi-use cap.
Background
Increasing numbers of people wear caps. There are accordingly many different peak arrangements for caps, ranging from soft to hard, and varying in length, form, shape and width.
Even with adjustment it can be difficult to obtain a well-fitted cap, given the variety of 15 head shapes in the world.
Given their prevalence it can be difficult to distinguish many caps from one another, and many users may therefore wish to customise or rearrange their favourite cap to obtain different peak arrangements whilst maintaining the fit.
Prior Art
US 2018 0 103 707 (SEU) discloses an interchangeable head apparel system.
US 2015 0 189 938 (REINHART) discloses an article of headwear including a crown component, a brim component, and an elongated attachment component configured to attach the brim component to the crown component.
US 2008 0 115 257 (HERNANDEZ) discloses headgear comprising: a crown that covers the top of a head of a wearer and visor having a flange fast with and transverse to said visor, said flange having opposed major surfaces both including a first coupling means; and second coupling means on external surface of said crown.
The present invention arose in order to overcome problems suffered by existing devices.
Summary of the Invention
According to the present invention there is provided a cap device comprising: a crown 5 having a peripheral edge defining a head receiving opening; a plurality of peaks; and a fastening means arranged to permit the removable fastening of a peak to the crown at a position proximate said peripheral edge of said crown with the peak extending outwardly from the crown; characterised in that the fastening means comprises a zipper and an elongated rectangular pocket wherein a first part of the zipper is located 10 within a pocket at the peripheral edge and a second part of the zipper is located on the peak; and wherein the pocket comprises an open lower edge and at least three closed edges, such that the pocket hides the first part of the zipper when no peak is fastened to the crown.
In some embodiments the pocket may be envisaged to traverse only part of the peripheral edge.
In some embodiments the pocket may be envisaged to comprise hook and loop material such as Velcro (RTM) to close the open lower edge when a peak is not in 20 position, and/or to provide a secondary fastening means of the crown on the peak in use.
In this way it may be envisaged that the pocket is enabled to hide the first zipper part when a peak is not in place In this way it may also be envisaged that the pocket is enabled to hide both parts of the zipper when a peak is in place.
The present invention therefore may enable use of the device in a first arrangement 30 without a peak, or in a number of second arrangements with any one of a plurality of peaks. This in turn is possible without other people being aware that the device is capable of rearrangement.
Some at least of the available peaks may be envisaged to have structural 35 strengthening within the peak, for example plastic, metal or carboard.
The first arrangement of the device enables the device to be machine washed. In some embodiments the crown may further comprise strengthening and/or displaceable parts.
In some embodiments the device may provide a segmented cap assembly that includes selectively detachable crown components, sweatband components and peak components, wherein a sweatband component may be formed having a forward part made of hook and loop tape hook portion-engaging material, and a crown component may selectively attach to the sweatband component by engagement of hook and loop tape material.
In some embodiments the device may comprise a dome shaped portion and a cover portion securable to the dome shaped portion, wherein the cover portion may be removable for example using snap fasteners wherein the cover may display a pattern 15 or emblem.
In some embodiments the device may comprise an inner hat made of tension flexed stretchable porous material built inside an outer cap, wherein the inner holds a user's hair firmly to the scalp due to its tension and stretchable nature.
In some embodiments the device may a plurality of pockets in the peripheral edge, for example enabling more than one location for the peak.
In some embodiments the device may therefore be envisaged to be collapsible in order 25 to be compact enough to conveniently fit in a shirt pocket or a pair of trousers, such that removal of the peak allows its compacted form.
It may be envisaged that the device may comprise a part of apparatus comprising a storage and carrying container to store and carry either the separated crown or 30 separated peak of the device by attaching the bag around a user's waist or belt.
In some embodiments the device may comprise a securement means, which may be envisaged to be used to secure the device on the user's head. Some embodiments of said securement means may be envisaged to be adjustable, so as to allow for variation in user head shape and size. In some embodiments the adjustability may be imparted by elastomeric material.
In some embodiments the adjustability may be comprised within the securement means. For example in some embodiments the device may comprise a securement means that is arranged to provide more than one securement position. In some embodiments the device may comprise a plurality of distinct or discrete securement positions. For example the crown may comprise a known pin and hole arrangement securement means In other embodiments the device may comprise a variable adjustment securement 10 means.
In some embodiments the device may enable the user to adjust the securement means in use. In some embodiments the device may enable removal of the securement means from the crown.
In some embodiments the device may be advantageously envisaged to be machine washable given the peaks' removal. Additionally or alternatively a head adjustment fastener may be fixed on with plastic studs or securement means.
Additionally or alternatively the device may comprise displaceable cards for the crown which may be formed in a substantially rigid material, for example cardboard and accordingly may be enabled to slide out, such that the device may comprise a plurality of detachable parts, enabling separate or independent cleaning, wherein the crown may be washed in a machine.

Detailed Description of Figures
With reference to the figures there is shown an embodiment of the device according to the present invention generally comprising a cap device 99 comprising: a crown 2 having a peripheral edge defining a head receiving opening; a plurality of peaks 1; and a fastening means 3 arranged to permit the removable fastening of a peak to the crown at a position proximate said peripheral edge of said crown with the peak extending outwardly from the crown; characterised in that the fastening means comprises a zipper 5 and a pocket 14 wherein a first part 41 of the zipper is located within a pocket at the peripheral edge and a second part 4 of the zipper is located on the peak.
In this way the user 100 is advantageously enabled to utilise the crown with a number of different peaks and/or without a peak without anyone being aware of other potential arrangements, whereby the pocket hides the zipper in use.
In particular reference to the pictured embodiment the embodiment comprises a substantially fabric device with a multiple segment crown, formed by six fabric triangular segments 6 joining at their points at a top of the crown, which has a topmost button stud 10.
The crown has an adjustment means 9 to a rear section of the peripheral edge, which adjustment means comprises a discontinuation in the peripheral edge and arcuate indentation into the rear segment of the crown, wherein the peripheral edge is continued by a plastic perforated tab 11 from one side of the indentation and a rigid tab 12 with buttons from the opposing side of the indentation.
The segments have rivet perforations 8 for airing the head, and internally the seams between the segments have bands 13 covering them.
The device of the present invention comprises a plurality of wholly displaceable peaks, as shown in Figure 5b, which enable the device to form a plurality of style of caps, as shown in Figure 5a.
The peaks comprise inner structural strengthening in some embodiments, for example 15 cardboard inserts.
The fastening means is provided by a second zipper part 4 on the peaks, with a zipper shuttle 21, and a first zipper part 41 on the crown The first zipper part is located within the pocket 14.
The pocket runs along the front part of the peripheral edge, and is elongate and rectangular with an open lower edge, a seamed top edge, and two closed ends. The pocket runs across the front two segments and the ends of the pocket are located in 25 the middle of the next two segments.
The rear face of the pocket may be envisaged to comprise a sweat band or similar absorbent, flocked and/or comfortable material.
The rear face may therefore be envisaged to form an addition to an otherwise substantially standard cap form, without a peak. The second part of the zipper may be located on the front surface of the sweat band or similar.
The second part of the zipper may not be envisaged to extend along the length of the 35 pocket, so as to allow for easier access to the zipper in use.
With reference to the embodiment as shown in Figures 6, the crown comprises an adjustable securement means.
Such securement means comprises a connection comprised of a cable 71 wound 5 around and secured to a locking spindle 73 in a circular plastic housing 75 on a first side of a substantially semicircular gap in the peripheral edge of the crown, running laterally across the gap, around a loose spinning cog housing 72 on the opposing second, side of the gap and back to the first side of the gap, where the cable is permanently secured at a securement point 74 to the peripheral edge of the crown. 10 This connection thereby allows the user to adjust the crown diameter in use, so as to accommodate the peak that is in place on the crown, even whilst wearing.
The locking spindle may be sprung, for example so as to release the lock.
In this way it may be envisaged that the user is enabled to adjust the crown diameter comfortably and precisely in use, so as to better accommodate the peak in use, and resulting shape of the crown.
The invention has been described by way of examples only and it will be appreciated that variation may be made to the above-mentioned embodiments without departing from the scope of invention as defined by the claims, in particular but not solely combination of features of described embodiments.

Claims (5)

  1. Claims 1 A cap device comprising: a crown having a peripheral edge defining a head receiving opening; a plurality of peaks; and a fastening means arranged to permit the removable fastening of a peak to the crown at a position proximate said peripheral edge of said crown with the peak extending outwardly from the crown; characterised in that the fastening means comprises a zipper and an elongated rectangular pocket wherein a first part of the zipper is located within a pocket at the peripheral edge and a second part of the zipper is located on the peak; and wherein the pocket comprises an open lower edge and at least three closed edges, such that the pocket hides the first part of the zipper when no peak is fastened to the crown.
  2. 2. A device according to claim 1 wherein the pocket hides the zipper when the peak is fastened to the crown.
  3. 3. A device according to claim 1 or 2 wherein the pocket comprises hook and loop material such as Velcro (RTM) to close its lower edge.
  4. 4. A device according to any preceding claim wherein the crown comprises an adjustable securement means which includes a connection to adjust the crown diameter in use, so as to accommodate the peak that is in place on the crown.
  5. 5. A cap device comprising: a crown having a peripheral edge defining a head receiving opening; a plurality of peaks; and a fastening means arranged to permit the removable fastening of a peak to the crown at a position proximate said peripheral edge of said crown with the peak extending outwardly from the crown; the fastening means comprises a zipper and an elongated rectangular pocket wherein a first part of the zipper is located within a pocket at the peripheral edge and a second part of the zipper is located on the peak; wherein the pocket comprises an open lower edge and three closed edges, such that the pocket hides the first part of the zipper when no peak is fastened to the crown, and the crown comprises a cable adjustable securement means to precisely adjust fit on the user's head during usage.
