Abstract

A laptop bag or laptop cover 10 that has an extendable and portable second screen 1 for a laptop (11, figure 6) where there are extending means (3, figure 6) that allow the screen height to be adjusted by the user. The folder may have encasing clips 4 that can house the laptop securely within the bag. The auxiliary screen may be connected to the laptop via a screen driver or a PCB board. This may be connected to the power supply via a power adaptor, battery or powered from the laptop itself via a connection. The stabilising means can be provided by stands (7, figure 7) that open out from the back of the folder in the open position.

Description

I
DESCRIPTION
Ergonomic portable and extendable second screen invention for laptop This invention relates to a device for to solve the problem of people straining their necks, backs, shoulders and arms by and sitting in an unergonomic position when working from their laptop.
The invention extends the screen to the natural head height of the user in line with ergonomic recommendations, allowing hands and shoulders to rest in a natural position while typing. The device also gives the user the ability to carry this screen around portably and comfortably. An additional benefit is that the user can mirror their laptop screen onto onto the accessory screen or have two separate screens as if they were working on a desktop with her with a secondary screen.
Typically, when people use laptops they are hunched over or will connect their laptop to a non portable stand alone second screen so that they can have the screen at a comfortable height. Other laptop stands have been created in the past but they normally put the laptop on a higher plane, consequently the keyboard is also high resulting in the user having to type in an uncomfortable position or connect a second keyboard so that they can rest their arms while typing. To overcome these problems, the present invention proposes a folder unit that can house a laptop and provide it with a connectable and extendable second screen, that slides up to the top of user head height or any comfortable position, while at the same time allowing the laptop keyboard to stay on the surface level, so the arms and shoulders can relax for ease and comfort of typing. The sliding nature of the screen back into the encasing folder and encompassing bag also allows for the second screen to be portable.
The second screen, is preferably extended by connected multi-extension rails connected to the back of the second screen 1 and to the folder, but could also be provided by other means like hydraulic extension for example. The extenders should be able to adjust to very heights by clips of some nature or just by stopping the hydraulic extenders. The second screen is also connected to the laptop via a screen driver and can be powered either through a USB connection to the laptop or a separate power cable.
The laptop containing folder has stabilisers at the back, that can protrude through the bag so that the second screen can be stabilised.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the open laptop container folder 10, with the extendable second screen 1, in the down position. This is shown in front view.
Figure 2 shows the open laptop container folder 10, with the extendable second screen 1, in the down position. This is shown in the back view where you can see the stabilisers 7, at the back that holder the laptop container folder 10, up in the open position.
Figure 3 shows the front view of the folder 10, containing a laptop 11, in open position, with the brackets 4, holding the laptop 11 in place.
Figure 4 shows the laptop container folder 10, in the closed position. You can see it contains the extenders 3, second screen 1, and a laptop 11, and encases them in a convenient position to carry. The spine 6, is wide enough to accommodate all of these parts in the closed position.
Figure 5 shows the laptop container folder 10, in the closed position. You can see it contains the extenders 3, the second screen 1, and a laptop 11 and it that encases them in a convenient position to carry. From this view you can also see the stabilisers 7 on the outside of the laptop container folder 10, which are clip in stabilisers 7 in this example but could be made in different ways like extendable poles for example. These stabilisers 7, will ultimately come out and support the folder in the open position.
Figure 6 shows the laptop container folder 10, in the open position, and the second screen 1 extended up in a front view.
Figure 7 shows the laptop container folder 10, in the open position from the back view with the second screen 1, extended. You can also see the screen driver on the back of the second screen 1, and the retractable stabilisers 7 on the back of the folder (these clip in, in this example but stabilisers 7, can be made in a number of ways).
Figure 8 shows the laptop container folder 10, open in a head on front view, with the second screen 1, in the down position.
Figure 9 shows a side view of the device with the second screen 1 in the down position, and open laptop container folder 10. From this view you can also see the brackets 4, that keep the laptop 11 in place as well as the stabilisers 7, on the back.
Figure 10 shows a bird's eye view of the laptop container folder 10, you can see the extenders 3, the second screen 1, and the space between the screen 1 and the folder, to give the screen driver space to pass through.
Figure 11 shows the laptop 11, inside the device from a front view in the open position.
Figure 12 shows the laptop 11, inside the invention from the side view.
Figure 13 shows the laptop 11 inside the laptop container folder 10, in an open position from a bird's eye view. You can see how the laptop's 11, keyboard sits inside folder and is held in place by the support brackets 4.
Figure 14 shows the bag 14, that will carry the device when in a closed position. You can see the zip goes around three sides so as not to restrict the opening of the laptop container folder 10. The bag 14, also has enough depth to house all components of the folder, and also handles and may also have a strap. Different styles of bags, cases or brief cases could be used to achieve this.
Figure 15 shows a flat view of one side of the bag 14.
Figure 16 shows a bird's eye view of the bag 14 in an upright position and you can see the zips in the middle.
Figure 17 shows an extender 3, isolated from an inside view. In this example you can see these are triple extension extenders 3 that work in a similar way to drawer runners, these can be more than or less than triple extension extenders too.
Figure 18 shows an isolated extender 3, from an outside view. You can see in this example there are holes on the side for clips to chose the height of the extender 3, but the height of the extender 3, will ideally be chosen with clips that allow you to choose any height, not dictated to by where the holes are, although the holes could also be used for this purpose, for specific heights, with a clip. This could also be done with hydraulic extenders or something similar too.
Figure 19 shows the outside view of the extenders 3, in a vertical position Figure 20 shows the extenders 3, in vertical side position Figure 21 shows the extenders 3, in the inside position Figure 22 shows the extenders 3, from the bird's eye view.
Figure 23 shows the PCB board! screen driver 13 case from a side view. This will be put on the back of the second screen 1.
Figure 24 shows the PCB / screen driver 13 case from a front view where you can see the various ports including the second screen 1 connection ports and the power connection port. The power can come from a power adaptor or a USB to screen driver cable, which are commercially readily available. Power can also come from a battery or power pack source.
Figure 25 shows the PCB board! screen driver 13 case from the back view.
Figure 26 shows the PCB board / Screen driver 13 case from the bird's eye view.
Figure 27 shows the bag surrounding the laptop container folder 10, in the open position with the second screen 1 extended, from the back view. This bag / case can be made in a number of ways with a soft or hard material and with a strap too. If a hard case type container is used, then the top horizontal rim must flip up to allow the extenders 3 and screen 1 to extend through. The example in the image is a soft bag so the extenders will not be impeded by the material.
Figure 28 shows the bag surrounding the laptop container folder 10, in the open position with the second screen 1 extended, from the front view.
Figure 29 shows the device without attached bag to show how the power cable 14 from the screen driver 13 can connect to the laptop USB port. It also shows the power panel 15, used to switch the second screen on and off, and how it is connected to the screen driver 13. You can see the screen driver 13 is also connected with the second screen 11, directly with a wire connector 17. These connections can be connected in a variety of positions and images here are examples of potential positions. The power cable can also use a standard power adaptor or battery and does not have to draw its power from the laptop. You can also see an example of where a HDMI cable 18, can connect from the the screen driver to the laptop 11.
Figure 30 shows the device without attached bag to show how the HDMI cable 18 connects to the laptop 11.
