Abstract

A head mountable powered air purifying respirator (10) is configured to connect, as a single unit, to a user's head or to headwear to be or being worn by a user. The head mountable powered air purifying respirator (10) comprises an annular casing (12), which is attachable to and detachable from the user's head or to headwear, for example standard unmodified safety helmet/hard hat. The annular casing (12) provides a foundation for a power source (16), which is operable to power/control one or more filtration units (14), which is/are attachable to the casing (12). The power source (16) is operable to power the one or more filtration units (14) to filter contaminated air from an environment in which the air purifying respirator is used. A detachable visor (18), including a face-shield (30) is included. The visor (18) is attachable to and detachable from a front edge of the annular casing (12) such that in use the visor (18) extends down from the annular casing (12) and defines an enclosed volume between the face-shield (30) and the user's face; the filtration units (14) are configured to expel filtered air to the enclosed volume between the face-shield (30) and the user's face.
