Abstract

260,391. Matz, M., and Matz, H. Sept. 16, 1925. Road-traffic signals on vehicles. - A direction signal of the cable-operated semaphore type is combined with a lamp casing mounted aujustably on the vehicle to enable the lamp to serve as a head or spot light. The lamp bulb or an additional one may be carried by a removable holder and provided with a length of flex so that it may be used as a portable inspection lamp. In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the semaphore 13 is pivoted at 19, and by means of a Bowden wire 24 may be swung into and out of a depending extension 45 of a casing 11 fitted with a reflector 12 and bulb 15, and universally mounted on the vehicle by means of jointed bracket parts 47. The casing is extended to the rear to enclose a second bulb 34 which is mounted in a holder 31 removably attached to the casing at 30 and is supplied through flex 35 in circuit with a switch 41 operated by the movement of the semaphore. A window 50 permits the light from bulb 34 to illuminate the semaphore, and the rear chamber is closed by a cover serving as a driving mirror. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, the bulb 61 is supported by a removable holder 60, the flex of which is stored in a compartment 64 at the rear of the cylindrical casing 53. The semaphore in this arrangement is pivoted in a lateral extension of the casing, and when withdrawn is housed in the compartment 75. According to the Provisional Specification, the semaphore may be swung to either side of its normal vertical and unexposed position, being restrained by two oppositely-acting springs and operated by either of two cords.
