Abstract
A pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus comprises a conductive rod (30) to define a current conduction path between a first and second electrical conductor (10, 20). In a first operation state of the apparatus (1), the conductive rod (30) is arranged in the area between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20) to electrically couple the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20) via the current conduction path. In a second operation state of the apparatus (1), a piston (40) is moved by a pyrotechnic actuator (50) to a position in the area between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20) to interrupt the current conduction path between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20).
Claims (13)
1. A pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus, comprising: - a first and a second electrical conductor (10, 20), - a conductive rod (30) to define a current conduction path between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20), the conductive rod (30) being movably arranged in an area between the first and the second electrical conductor (10, 20), - a piston (40) of a non-conductive material, - a pyrotechnic actuator (50), the pyrotechnic actuator (50) being coupled to the piston (40) to move the piston (40) from a first position outside of the area between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20) to a position in the area between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20), - an insulator (60) being arranged between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20), the insulator (60) having a channel (61) to receive the conductive rod (30) in the first operation state of the apparatus (1), and to receive the piston (40) in the second operation state of the apparatus (1), - wherein the piston (40) is conically shaped so that the piston (40) gets stuck in the channel (61) of the insulator (60), when the pyrotechnic actuator (50) exerts the force onto the piston (40) in the second operation state of the apparatus (1), - wherein, in a first operation state of the apparatus (1), the conductive rod (30) is arranged in the area between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20) to electrically couple the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20) via the current conduction path, - wherein, in a second operation state of the apparatus (1), the piston (40) is moved by the pyrotechnic actuator (50) to the position in the area between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20) to interrupt the current conduction path between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20).

The pyrotechnic switching an interruption apparatus of claim 1, - wherein the conductive rod (30) and the piston (40) are movably coupled to each other, - wherein the pyrotechnic actuator (50) is ignited, when the apparatus (1) is switched form the first operation state to the second operation state, - wherein the pyrotechnic actuator (50) is configured to exert a force onto the piston (40) to move the conductive rod (30) in the second operation state of the apparatus (1) out of the area between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20) to a position at which the conduction path between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20) is interrupted, when the pyrotechnic actuator (50) is ignited.

The pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus of claim 2, wherein the pyrotechnic actuator (50) is configured to exert the force onto the piston (40) to move the conductive rod (30) in the second operation state of the apparatus (1) to a position outside of the area between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20), when the pyrotechnic actuator (50) is ignited.
4. The pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus of any of the claims 1 to 3, wherein the conductive rod (30) and the piston (40) are coupled to each other such that the piston (40) strikes the conductive rod (30), when the pyrotechnic actuator (50) is ignited.

The pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus of any of the claims 1 to 4, - wherein, in the first operation state of the apparatus (1), an end face of the conductive rod (30) and an end face of the piston (40) are arranged spaced apart from each other, - wherein the piston (40) is arranged such that the end face of the piston (40) strikes the end face of the conductive rod (30), when the pyrotechnic actuator (50) is ignited.

The pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus of claim 5, wherein the piston (40) comprises a first portion (41) being conically shaped and a second portion (42) being cy1indrically shaped, the end face of the piston (40) being formed at the front side of the second portion (42) of the piston (40).
7. The pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus of any of the claims 1 to 6, wherein the conductive rod (30) has at least a portion being conically shaped.
8. The pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus of any of the claims 1 to 7, comprising: a retention element (70) to exert a retention force onto the conductive rod (30), when the conductive rod (30) is moved out of the area between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20).

The pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus of any of the claims 1 to 8, - wherein the first electrical conductor (10) comprises an opening (11) to receive the conductive rod (30) and the piston (40), - wherein the second electrical conductor (20) comprises an opening (21) to receive at least the conductive rod (30).
10. The pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus of claim 9, comprising: - a first spring contact (80a) being arranged in the opening (11) of the first electrical conductor (10), and - a second spring contact (80b) being arranged in the opening (12) of the second electrical conductor (20).

The pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus of claim 10, wherein the insulator (60) has at least one cavity (62a, 62b) disposed in the insulator (60) next to the channel (61) of the insulator so that the channel (61) and the at least one cavity (62a, 62b) of the insulator (60) are seperated from each other by a narrow material web (63a, 63b) of the insulator (60).

The pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus of any of the claims 1 to 11, comprising: a catching element (90) being configured to lock the conductive rod (30) in the position at which the current conduction path between the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20) is interrupted, when the apparatus (1) is operated in the second operation state.

The pyrotechnic switching and interruption apparatus of any of the claims 1 to 12, - wherein the conductive rod (30) is fixed to at least one of the first and second electrical conductor (10, 20) in a fixing position by a fixation mechanism (100), when the apparatus (1) is operated in the first operation state, - wherein the fixation mechanism (100) is configured such that the conductive rod (30) is knocked out of the fixing position by the piston (40), when the pyrotechnic actuator (50) is ignited to exert the force onto the piston (40).
