Abstract
The invention relates to a system (10) for handling electrical cables (18) equipped with at least one first electrical connector (14) and connecting said first electrical connector (14) to a at least one second compatible electrical connector (12), characterized in that the system comprises: - an arm (20) comprising a connector holder (34) for holding the at least one first electrical connector (14) connected to the cable (18), said arm (20) being rotatable between a receiving position and a connecting position, to bring said at least one first electrical connector (14) through a structure (30) from one side to another side, through an opening (32) in said structure (30), - means for rotating said arm (20) around a pivot point (26), and - at least one second electrical connector (12), for receiving the at least one first electrical connector (14), placed on an inside (36) of said structure (30). The invention also relates to a method.
Claims (14)
1. System (10) for handling electrical cables (18) equipped with at least one first electrical connector (14) and connecting said first electrical connector (14) to a at least one second compatible electrical connector (12), characterized in that the system comprises: - an arm (20) comprising a connector holder (34) for holding the at least one first electrical connector (14) connected to the cable (18), said arm (20) being rotatable between a receiving position and a connecting position, to bring said at least one first electrical connector (14) through a structure (30) from one side to another side, through an opening (32) in said structure (30), - means for rotating said arm (20) around a pivot point (26), and - at least one second electrical connector (12), for receiving the at least one first electrical connector (14), placed on an inside (36) of said structure (30).
2. System (10) according to claim 1 , wherein the structure (30) holds a sheltered environment on the inside (36) for performing the connection of the first electrical connector (14) to the second electrical connector (12).
3. System (10) according to claim 1 , wherein a hatch (28) is changeable between a condition as a guide for guiding the first electrical connector (14) to a condition as a cover for the opening (32).
4. System (10) according to claim 1 , wherein the structure (30) is a hull (30â ) of a ship.
5. System (10) according to claim 1 , wherein the first electrical connectors (14) on the cables (18) are arranged in a connector frame (16) that is compatible with a connector holder (34) on the arm (20).
6. System (10) according to claim 1 , wherein the arm (20) comprises a cable guide (22) to guide said cables (18) and to provide the required bending radius for the cables (18) as the arm (20) rotates.
7. System (10) according to claim 1 , wherein the second electrical connectors (12) are arranged facing down.
8. System according to claim 1 , wherein the means for rotating the arm (20) comprises an electrical motor.
9. System according to claim 1 , wherein the first electrical connectors (14) are covered by a connector cover (24) that can be opened on the inside (36) of the structure (30), before the first electrical connectors (14) are connected to the second electrical connectors (12).

Method for autonomous connecting of electrical power to movable units, characterized in that the method comprising the steps of - opening a hatch (28) to a guide position, - positioning an arm (20) to a receiver position, - lowering at least one cable (18) equipped with a first electrical connector (14) down adjacent a structure (30) on the movable unit until the first electrical connector (14) rests in a connector holder (34) on the arm (20), and - rotating said arm (20) holding said at least one first electrical connector (14) around a pivot point (26) until said first electrical connector (14) connects to a corresponding down facing second electrical connector (12) inside said structure (30).
11. Method according to claim 10, wherein the method comprises the step of activating a fixing mechanism in the connector holder (34) on the arm (20) for fixing the first electrical connector (14) to the connector holder (34).
12. Method according to claim 10, wherein the method comprises the step of activating a mechanism for opening a connector cover (24) on the inside (36) of the structure (30), before the first electrical connectors (14) are connected to the second electrical connectors (12).
13. Method according to claim 10, wherein the unit is a vessel at quay.
14 Method according to claim 10, wherein the structure (30) is a hull (30â ) on a vessel.
