Refrigerating. compression machines for; cold accumulators. - A machine adapted to be mounted on a domestic refrigerator 10, with the evaporator 36 located in the refrigerator, comprises a motor 13 and compressor 11, housed in a hermetically sealed casing 14 having a removable cover plate, at each end, the condenser 29 being arranged around the casing. The compressor may be of the rotary type and similar to that described in Specification 217,178, or of the reciprocating type, and the compressor and motor chambers are separated by a fluid-fight partition 21 which supports an intermediate bearing 19 for the shaft 12. A combined refrigerant and lubricant as described in Specification 208,547 is employed, and liquid is entrained with the vapour returning from the evaporator, through a small opening 46 in the return vapour pipe 47, as described in Specification 195,943. The mixed fluid discharged from the compressor through a pipe 24 impinges against the top cover 15 of the casing whereby liquid is deflected into a well 22 around the compressor, and the refrigerant is vapourized from this liquid by the heat of the compressor, as described in Specification 217,178. A baffle 28 is arranged between the top of the pipe 24 and the outlet 27 to the cordenser. The latter preferably comprises concentric coils, the cooling-water circulating in contra-flow through the inner coil. Alternatively, the refrigerant may be condensed in a coil cooled solely by the surrounding air. Liquid may overfow from the well 22 through a pipe 30 leading to the outlet pipe 35 of the condenser, which connects with the evaporator through a foat valve 37. The evaporator proper surrounds a chamber 38 containing alcohol and water or other non-congealable liquid serving as a reservoir of cold when the machine is idle, this chamber 38 having a recess 39 for ice-moulds 41. The upper bearing 18 and compressor are supplied with lubricant through a pipe 52, and the intermediate bearing 19 through a passage 53. A catch cup 55 fitted below the bearing 19 drains to the suction passage 48 passing through the shaft 12, which passage communicates with the compressor inlet 51 by radial ports 49.
