Description

Description
Display Device
Field of the invention
[0001] The present invention belongs to a field of display technology and relates to a display device for an information system for a vehicle.
Prior art
[0002] DE 102011082933 Al describes a display device that has a display element with an interface for receiving a picture signal, wherein a display panel designed as a LCD generates a visual display based on the picture signal. A carrier frame designed as an angle eleme=, is provided with a support surface for the display element. An adhesive bond designed as a stripe along an edge area of the display element, is made of hardened liquid adhesive and connects the display element with the carrier frame.
[0003] EP 2749936 A2 belongs to a field of liquid crystal display technical and relates to a backlight module and a liquid crystal display. The backlight module includes a backplane and a light source arranged on the backplane, and further includes a position-limiting unit. The position-limiting unit is arranged on the backplane and is capable of limiting a liquid crystal panel at a set position. The backlight module according to the present invention is a direct-type backlight module.
[0004] Documents US 2016139442 Al and US 2017176805 Al also disclose the elements of a universal display module.
[0005] Another known universal display module generally includes, among other parts (like a light conductor and a reflector, for example) an electronic display panel unit to display moving images, a display frame (made of polycarbonate material, for example) to support the electronic display panel unit, adhesive tapes to join the display panel unit with the display frame and a magnesium backplate housing all parts of the universal display module for preventing damage during usage. The display panel is attached with clips to backplate. Also, isolation tapes are needed to prevent optical bonding liquid to enter different parts of the display unit.
Disadvantages of the prior art
[0006] Due to flatness issues of the display frame in the prior art arrangement, lots of correction loops are required in order to fix black uniformity. Because the display frame is attached to the backplate with clips, many adjustments are required, and this may create noise problems during vibration testing.
[0007] Another disadvantage is that the material of the display frame has a different thermal expansion coefficient 20 compared to the backplate material and for this reason gaps are required between the frame and the backplate, which also add tolerances to the assembly.
[0008] Additional assembly and verification steps are required to check if all the clips are properly latched.
[0009] The thickness of the display unit is increased with all these components: display panel, display frame and magnesium backplate, but this doesn't provide any real structural strength.
Problem to be solved by the invention [0010] The main problem to be solved by the present invention is the flatness issue of the display frame. An acceptable flatness is hard to reach due to many adjustment steps and correction loops that are required.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0011] The invention solves the technical problem by providing a display device comprising a backplate, a reflector, a light conductor, a foil stack, a display panel, an adhesive tape, wherein the backplate has bent and thickened side walls 10 that support directly the display panel.
The advantages of the invention [0012] By using the display arrangement according to the invention, the following advantages are obtained: better flatness for a thinner display with stability during temperature and vibration testing. Also, a lower price for the display module is expected.
[0013] By eliminating the display frame together with the holes for clips, the risk for the optical bonding liquid to 20 enter the display module is removed.
Brief description of the drawings
[0014] The invention will be hereafter described with reference to the drawings, as follows: -Fig. 1 shows a front view of a display module from the state of the art; -Fig. 2 illustrates a section view of the display module from Fig. 1; - Fig. 3 shows a rear view of the display module from 30 Fig. 1; - Fig. 4 shows a front view of a display module according to the invention; - Fig. 5 illustrates a section view of the display module according to the invention; - Fig. 6 shows a rear view of the display module according 5 to the invention.
[0015] List of references in the drawings: 1, 21 -Backplate 21.1 -Backplate side walls 2, 22 -Reflector 3, 23 -Light conductor 4, 24 -Foil stack 5, 25 -Display panel 6, 26 -Adhesive tape 7 - Frame 8 - Isolation tape 9 - Positioning bulge 10, 20 -Electromagnetic Interference tape (EMI) AB -distance measured from the edge of the display panel Detailed description of the invention and embodiments [0016] The present invention relates to an arrangement of a display module.
[0017] The object of this invention is to provide a new and innovative construction of a display module by eliminating the display frame and all the necessary steps and elements used to attach the display frame to the display panel and to the backplate.
[0018] Now, turning in details to the drawings, Fie-. 1 shows a front view of a display module known from prior art; it is observed that an active area of the display module is delimited by a display frame.
[0019] Fig. 2 is a cross-section view of the display module from Fig. 1. The display module comprises: a backplate 1, a reflector 2, a light conductor 3, a foil stack 4, a display panel 5, adhesive tape 6, a display frame 7 and isolation tape 8 on the exterior side of the display frame. Positioning bulge 9 serves to position the isolation tape 8. A light source, for example LEDs (not illustrated, nor referenced) is placed in the side edge of the display module.
[0020] Backplate 1, the back part of the display, is a box made of metallic (e.g. magnesium) or non-metallic (e.g. plastic) that contains all components of the display module. A metallic backplate is preferred for dimensional stability and a better heat dissipation. Reflector 2 is a thin plastic foil that redirects all the light emitted by light source (not illustrated) towards the display panel. The light conductor 3 is transparent and assures the uniformity and the transmission of the light towards the display panel. The foil stack 4 contains foils that level and maximize the light. The frame 7 is a frame made of polycarbonate, for example, located between the backplate and the display panel, which has the role to prevent light leakage and to ensure a support for the display panel.
[0021] Fig. 3 shows a rear view of the display module from prior art. The isolation tape 8 of the side walls of the backplate 1 is seen in the figure, as well as an Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) tape 10, which is a metallic layer that blocks electromagnetic radiations generated by the display panel and also covers the holes for clips (not illustrated, nor referenced).
[0022] Fig. 4 shows a front view of a display module according to the present invention; the display frame 7 is not depicted anymore on the edges of the display module.
[0023] Fig. 5 illustrates a cross-section view of a display module according to the invention. The display module comprises: a backplate 21 with bent side walls 21.1, a reflector 22, a light conductor 23, a foil stack 24, a display 5 panel 25 and adhesive tape 26.
[0024] The design of the backplate 21 has been modified as a support frame for the display panel, wherein the side walls have been thickened in order to obtain a larger contact surface S with the display panel. The adhesive tape 26 is put directly on top of the backplate side walls 21.1 which is supported directly by the backplate.
[0025] The contact surface has a width of 3-3.5 mm. In order to prevent light leakage, the display panel has black glass on all four sides on a distance AB, exceeding the width 15 of backplate wall.
[0026] Fig. 6 shows a rear view of a display module according to the invention. The isolation tape is not present anymore on the bent side walls of the backplate 21.
