Abstract

A wearable support 2 for one or more jewellery pieces. The support comprises a singular tubular member, such as a wire, having first and second arm sections 4, 6 divided by an arcuate section 8. The support further has a means to attach one or more jewellery carrier (12A, B, and C; figure 2) to first and second arm sections such as using a clip 14A, 14B. The jewellery carrier could include a means to attach jewellery pieces (16; figure 2) and could be worn around the neck resulting in the arms being supported along the shoulders of the user (10; figure 3). Furthermore, the jewellery pieces and carrier could be weighted to retain the support against the neck and shoulders during use.

Description

JEWELLERY SUPPORT
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a jewellery support. More especially the invention relates to a wearable structure from which jewellery pieces can be supported. Further still, the invention relates to a jewellery support which, in combination with the jewellery pieces, forms a necklace.
Background to the invention
Wearable jewellery such as necklaces are in common usage across the world. The chosen design is a matter of personal taste at the time with a view to the occasion on which it is to be worn. Wearers tend to have a number of different necklaces carrying different designs from which they can choose depending on the particular circumstances.
The present invention seeks to provide a wearable support element to which jewellery elements or pieces can easily be attached or detached to form a bespoke jewellery item, such as a necklace.
Whilst the embodiments described relate to formation of a necklace it is appreciated that the support element may be equally applicable to form other items of jewellery of fashion accessories. It could for example be supported around the waist of a user to form a bespoke belt design.
zo Summary of invention
According to one aspect of the invention there is a provided a wearable support for inter alia one or more jewellery pieces, the support comprising a singular tubular member having first and second arms divided by an arcuate section and means to attach one or more jewellery element to first and second arms.
Preferably the support comprises a wire.
Preferably the or each jewellery element comprises a string or wire extending between first and second arms to provide an arcuate structure extending in the opposite direction to the arcuate section of the support. Preferably the or each string or wire includes means to attach one or more jewellery pieces.
Preferably, the diameter of the arcuate section of the support is sufficiently large for the arcuate section to fit around the back of the neck of a wearer during use such that the first and second arms are supported along the respective shoulders of the wearer.
Preferably the jewellery carriers and/or pieces are weighted to retain the support against the neck and the shoulders of the wearer during use.
Brief description of the drawings
Embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying figures in which: Figure 1 illustrates a support element for jewellery constructed in accordance an embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 illustrates the support element with jewellery carriers and pieces attached to form a necklace constructed in accordance with the invention; and Figure 3 illustrates the necklace of figure 3 being worn. Detailed description of preferred embodiments Figure 1 shows a support member for jewellery which is designed, in use to be worn around the back of the neck of a wearer.
The support member 2 is made from a single elongate piece of wire which may be coated or plated with a metal commonly used for jewellery. The wire may be gold or silver plated for example.
The support member 2 has a simple structure and comprises first and second arms 4, 6 defining each end of the support divided in the middle by an arcuate or semi-circular formation 8.
The central formation 8 has a extends over a width sufficient to fit loosely around the back of the neck of a wearer in such a way that the arms 4, 6 extend along, and are supported gently by respective shoulders 10 of the wearer as can be seen best in figure 3.
The wire of the support member 2 is made from a resilient flexible material to allow the width to be easily varied by manipulation using the wearer's hands for 5 placement around the neck. The wire is bent into shape to ensure curved edges and therefore comfort to the wearer.
Jewellery carriers in the form of chains or wires 12 extend between the first and second arms 4, 6 and hang down over the chest area of the wearer. The end of each chain 12 is connected to respective arms 4, 6 of the support using known and appropriate connection means, in the case of the embodiment shown using a clip 14. As well as connecting the chains 12 to the support member 2, the clip 14 act as clamps to retain the end of the chain 12 in the desired position along the arm 4, 6. The ends of each chain 12 () may all be attached to a single clip 14 which is in turn attached to the respective arm 4, 6 of the member.
The described embodiment shows three jewellery carriers 12. Any number could though be used. Each chain 12 could vary in style, design and dimension.
Alternatively, each chain 12 may have a clip to allow the individually chains to be located along the arms 4, 6 in desired locations relative to each other.
In an alternative embodiment (now shown) each end of the chain 12 may have an eyelet which is located over the respective arm 4, 6 to slide along the arm to the required position. The end of each arm 4, 6 may be provided with a stopper to prevent the chains 12 from separating from the support member 2.
Alternatively, each end of each chain 12 may connected to the support member 2 using magnets.
Jewellery pieces 16 are attached to each chain 12 to hang down therefrom.
In the described embodiment the jewellery pieces 16 are shows as golden discs. They could though be jewellery pieces of any style, design or dimension. One or more could, for example, be a gemstone.
The combination of the support member 2, jewellery carriers 12 and jewellery pieces 16 form necklace supported around the back of the neck and across the shoulders of the wearer. This provides a unique effect of spreading the jewellery pieces 16 across a wider area of the wearer's chest. Each chain 12 has a different length so that they extend over the chest of the wearer at different heights providing a layered effect to the overall necklace design.
Use of the support member 2 also maintains clearance between the necklace and the front of the neck which some people may otherwise find uncomfortable.
The weight of the jewellery pieces 16 and/or the jewellery carriers 12, maintains the support 2 in place. The jewellery pieces 16 and/or jewellery carriers 12 may be specifically weighted if necessary.
The jewellery carriers 12 and pieces 16 may be individually detachable and replaceable with over elements and pieces to vary the overall look and design of the necklace.
