Abstract
259,523. Lake, A. E., and Cook, A. June 30, 1925. Jacks. - Lifting-jacks of the kind having a frame and a crutch carried by a beam and a parallel link pivoted to the frame, have the frame formed of two preferably substantially triangular side plates, spaced apart in parallel relationship, and between which the pivot of the hand-lever extends. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the side plates 10 are spaced apart by the foot-piece 12, the axle 15 of the wheels 14, and the pivot bolts 20, 34. The crutch-pillar 35 is adjustably mounted in a rack-bar 36 slidable in the crutch 30 and held in its adjusted position by a pawl 38. The crutch 30 is mounted on the frame by a parallel motion linkage 32, the lower link being extended beyond its pivot 20 to form a handle 21, carrying a holding pawl 40 cooperating with a rack 23 on the frame. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the crutch 30 has a curvilinear rack 23 to compensate for movement around the pivot 20 of the hand-lever 21 and a holding pawl 142 pivoted to the frame co-operates with the rack. The pawl has a curved rib 143 with which a pawl-releasing rod 144 can be engaged. A hook 50 on the hand-lever can be engaged with a part of the frame to facilitate manoeuvring the jack.
