Abstract

A cable routing device for routing at least one cable through an aperture in an aircraft rib. The device comprises a base portion 10 and a cover portion 20. The base portion 10 comprises a face 14 defining at least one base channel 11a-f configured to receive a cable. The cover portion 20 comprises a face 24 that is engageable with the face 14 of the base portion 10 such that they define at least one cable routing hole. At least one of the faces is elastic. The base channel may have a neck 12 which seals against the cable and the base and cover portions may have corresponding projections 13 and apertures 23 to restrict their relative movement.

However, in other embodiments, the face 14 may be elastic, such as elastomeric, and an underlying body of the base portion 10 to which the face 14 is connected is inelastic. In some embodiments in which the cover portion 20 is elastomeric, the face 14 is inelastic.
100321 As shown in Figure 1, the base channels 11 are linear and extend from a first end 15 of the base portion 10 to a second end 16 of the base portion 10. The first end 15 is opposite the second end 16. In some embodiments, the base channels 11 may be nonlinear. For example, the base channels 11 may take a serpentine route between the first end 15 and the second end 16. Moreover, the first end 15 and the second end 16 may not be opposite each other. For example, the first end 15 may be orthogonal to the second end 16.
100331 In the base portion 10 shown in Figure 1, the base channels 11 are parallel to each other. In some embodiments, the base channels 11 may be non-parallel. For example, at least one base channel I I may extend at an angle between 0 and 90 degrees relative to another base channel 11. In some embodiments, some of the base channels 11 are parallel to each other and others of the base channels 11 are non-parallel to each other.
100341 As shown in Figure 1, each of the base channels 11 comprises three necks 12. The necks 12 are configured to seal against a cable (for example an optical cable) installed in the base channel 11 in use. This may help to prevent or restrict fluid flow along an outer surface of the cable or an internal surface of the base channel 11 in use. In some embodiments, greater or fewer than three necks 12 are provided, such as two necks 12 or only one neck 12. The provision of plural necks 12 in each base channel 11 provides redundancy in the event that one of the necks 12 fails to provide an adequate seal against the cable in that base channel 11 in use. In some embodiments, each of the base channels 11 has no such neck(s) 12.
