Abstract

A metal bolt 40 comprises a cylindrical shank 11 having a head portion 12 at one end 13. with one surface 14 of the head portion 12 facing away from the shank 11 and an opposing surface 15 facing the shank 11. The head portion 12 may be hexagonally shaped. An external male thread 16 runs along the shank 11. and a formation 18 is disposed at another end 17 of the shank 11 opposite the one end 13, for engaging a tool to apply torque to the bolt 40. The formation 18 is of such a shape as to allow a nut, in use, to pass over to engage the thread 16 on the shank 11. The formation 18 may be a recess which, in use, may engage a screwdriver, or a hexagonal key, or may extend from the shank and be adapted, in use, to engage a spanner or wrench. The opposing surface 15 of the head portion 12, which faces the shank 11, may have plurality of raised formations 41 so as to form a regular pattern of raised diamond shapes 42, with a plurality of channels 43 between the raised diamond shapes 42 running across the opposing surface 15 in a criss-cross pattern.

Description

The head portion 12 is hexagonally shaped. An external male thread 16 runs along the shank 11 from the other end 17 thereof, and a formation 18 is disposed at the other end 17 of the shank 11, which formation 18 is a slot 19 and is adapted to receive a screwdriver (not shown) along the central axis of the shank 11, for applying a torque to the bolt 40, with the formation 18 being of such a shape as to allow a nut (not shown), in use, to pass thereover to engage the tread 16 on the shank 11.
The opposing surface 15 of the head portion 12, which faces the shank 11, has a plurality of raised formations 41 upstanding therefrom so as to form a regular pattern of raised diamond shapes 42, with a plurality of channels 43 between the raised diamond shapes 42 running across the opposing surface 15 in a criss-cross pattern from edge 44, with some of the channels 45 terminating at the shank 11.
