Abstract

A system and method for detecting a position of an object (12) in surroundings (14) by an object detection system (10), by which a sound of the object (12) is detected by a first microphone device (18) of a first motor vehicle (20) and a first direction (22) of the sound relative to the first motor vehicle (20) is determined depending on the detected sound by a first electronic computing device (24), wherein the sound of the object (12) is detected by second microphone device (26) of a second motor vehicle (28) and a second direction (30) of the sound relative to the second motor vehicle (28) is determined depending on the detected sound by a second electronic computing device (32) and the first determined direction (22) and the second determined direction (30) are transmitted to the object detection system (10) external to the motor vehicles (20, 28, 34) and the position of the object (12) is determined by analysing the first direction (22) and the second direction (30) by an further electronic computing device (16) of the object detection system (10).
