Description

Portable Welfare Trolley
Technical Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a portable welfare trolley and portable welfare system for use on a construction site, and a method of providing welfare on a construction site.
Background to the Invention
Workers operating on a construction site must be provided with certain on-site welfare facilities, as required and specified in law. Welfare facilities which must be provided can include microwaves, hot water machines, fresh drinking water, and tables and chairs. When the construction site consists of an outdoor environment, welfare facilities can be provided by welfare units, which are temporary buildings (such as trailers) in which are housed all the necessary facilities.
However, such welfare units are difficult to use in indoor environments, since it can be difficult or impossible to move the units into a building. This is especially the case when the construction site is on a floor other than ground. In such cases, welfare facilities are typically provided by bringing the separate facilities together on-site. This requires the various separate facilities to be individually found and brought to site, which can be a time-consuming task. Further to this, the site must be periodically checked to ensure the facilities remain on-site. Given the facilities can be separated and moved apart, this can sometimes require searching a large proportion or even the entire site, which is again a time-consuming process.
The present invention is intended to solve or at least mitigate one or more of the problems discussed above.
Summary of the Invention
According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a portable welfare trolley for use on a construction site, the portable welfare trolley comprising one or more rotatable elements upon which the portable welfare trolley can roll along a surface, a microwave, a machine operable to heat water and a first tap connectable to a water supply.
By putting the required welfare facilities (tap for supplying water, microwave, machine operable to heat water) on a trolley, the facilities can all be provided and kept on an indoor site by just providing the trolley. Further to this, given all the welfare facilities are together as part of the trolley, a person managing welfare need only provide the trolley to satisfy the requirements and also need only check the trolley to ensure all the necessary facilities are present and working The portable welfare trolley may comprise a container. The container may be a cupboard. A body of the portable welfare trolley may form the container. The microwave may be within the container. The container may comprise one or more doors. The body may be a cuboid. The container may be a cuboid with a longitudinal cross section of a rectangle with chamfered off corners. A side of the cuboid may comprise the door or doors. The container may form storage space. The side of the cuboid comprising the door or doors may, when the welfare trolley is in normal use, be the front of the welfare trolley. The container may comprise two doors. At least one door may be a hinged door. The or each hinged door may comprise a handle. At least one door may be a shutter door. The portable welfare trolley may comprise a divider separating the container into at least two sections. The divider may separate the container into a first section and a second section. The divider may extend across the container, perpendicular to the longitudinal cross section of the container. The first section may be enclosed by the hinged door, the at least part of the body and the divider.
The second section may be enclosed by the shutter door, at least part of the body and the divider. The microwave may be within the second section.
The portable welfare trolley comprising a container means the trolley provides storage space, which is of use for additional desired welfare facilities (for example, a table and chairs) or for other facilities required or desired on-site The portable welfare trolley may comprise a worktop. The worktop may be flat. The machine operable to heat water may be on the worktop. The first tap may be on the worktop. The worktop may be a side of the cuboid container. The worktop, when the welfare trolley is in normal use, may be the top of the welfare trolley. The worktop may comprise one or more drip trays. At least one drip tray may be aligned with an end of the first tap through which water can exit the first tap.
The portable welfare trolley comprising a worktop allows welfare activities (such as preparing food) to be carried out on the trolley, such that an additional preparation area is not required. This saves on the area required on-site for welfare, which is particularly useful on smaller sites. The worktop comprising a drip tray reduces the chances of water from the first tap accidentally spreading across the rest of the worktop and/or are around the trolley, thereby making clean up easier.
The machine operable to heat water may be a kettle. In particular, the kettle may be an electrical kettle. In such cases, an electrical connection of the electrical kettle may be attached to the worktop The machine operable to heat water may be a hot water dispenser. The hot water dispenser may be attached to the worktop. At least one drip tray aligned with an end of the hot water dispenser through which water can exit the hot water dispenser. The end of the hot water dispenser may comprise a second tap.
The portable welfare trolley may comprise a fridge. The fridge may be within the container. The fridge may be within the second section of the container. The microwave may be atop the fridge.
The portable welfare trolley may comprise four rotatable elements. The or each rotatable element may be a wheel. The or each wheel may be a swivel wheel. Each rotatable element may be attached to a side of the cuboid which, in normal use, is the bottom of the welfare trolley. There may be a rotatable element attached adjacent to each corner of the side.
Swivel wheels allow the portable welfare trolley to be more easily moved into position on-site.
The portable welfare trolley may comprise one or more brakes operable to inhibit rotation of the rotatable elements when engaged and allow rotation when disengaged. The or each brake may be associated with a respective rotatable element, each brake inhibiting rotation of the respective rotatable element when engaged and allowing rotation of the respective rotatable element when disengaged.
One or more brakes allow the portable welfare trolley to be moved into position and then further movement to be prevented by engaging the brakes. This reduces the chances of the trolley accidentally moving, which makes it easier to interact with and use the welfare facilities.
The container may comprise a shelf The first section may comprise the shelf The shelf may extend from the body to the divider. The shelf may comprise one or more apertures. A central axis of the or each aperture may be perpendicular to the extension of the shelf The or each aperture may be substantially circular.
