Abstract
259,372. Dicker, S. G. S., (Owens Bottle Co.). Sept. 28, 1925. Blowing.-Relates to a single-table machine of the Graham type, as described in Specification 127,995, and consists in arranging for the production of two or more articles simultaneously by each set of moulds. A suitable feeder is arranged to discharge the required number of charges of metal into the parison moulds. The machine comprises a mould carriage consisting of lower and upper tables 22, 23, Fig. 1, on which are mounted the finishing moulds 24 and the parison moulds 25, respectively, and these tables are rotated continuously about a central column 20 by means of a motor 26. The charges of metal received in the parison moulds ane compacted by air pressure supplied through a blowhead 85, and after the mould is opened, a transfer head carrying the ring moulds rotates about a horizontal axis to swing the parisons down into position to be enclosed by the finishing moulds. The moulds are arranged in groups or units spaced at equal intervals around the tables, and each unit consists of a number, preferalbly two, of each kind of mould, as shown in Fig. 2. Each transfer head also includes a cylinder 86 for actuating the plungers 83 which form the initial blow opening in the parisons. The moulds of each unit are preferably arranged with the moulding cavities at equal distances from the axis of the machine, but they may be arranged so that the cavities lie on a radius of the machine. Each finishing mould of the pair forming a unit comprises an outer section a, Fig. 6, and an inner section b hinged on a pivot 33 and connected by links to slides 37, 37<a>. The outer section a is first opened, and the inner section b then moves and releases the bottom mould 49 which tilts and discharges the finished articles 52. The parison moulds are opened end closed by similar mechanism. Each mould of a pair may have more than one moulding cavity. Delivering molten metal.-The feeder described in Specification 175,949 is adapted for use with the machine and comprises two plungers 94, Fig. 19, which are reciprocated by means of a rotating cam 101 and control the discharge of metal through outlets 93 in the flow of a forehearth 95. Shears 109 are situated below the outlets and they are actuated by an arm 112 which is periodically engaged by cams secured to the mould carriage of the machine.
