Description

Seat cover for an item of seating furniture
Background of the invention
The invention relates to a seat cover for an item of seating furniture, comprising a multi-layered fabric.
In particular, items of seating furniture for outdoors, e.g. folding armchairs or camping chairs, are frequently provided with such a seat cover. The seat cover is a textile fabric which is fastened to the frame parts of the item of seating furniture. The seat cover can be fixedly or detachably connected to the frame. Seat covers which are formed merely from a single-layered textile fabric are also known. Sitting comfort results from the stretch behaviour of the textile fabric and is relatively restricted.
Therefore, in order to increase sitting comfort, it is already known to form the fabric with multiple layers. In this case, sitting comfort is achieved by compression of the fabric. However, in the case of seat covers formed in a multi-layered manner, there is frequently a problem that moisture can accumulate in the interior of the seat cover, in particular if the items of seating furniture are stored permanently outdoors. The stored moisture is released when a person sits down on the item of seating furniture, which restricts sitting comfort and usability.
Furthermore, in the case of items of seating furniture which are used outdoors, it is necessary that the textile fabric is weather-resistant as well as resistant to UV light and rain. For this purpose, it is also already known to provide the material used for the fabric with finishing agents.
The object of the invention is to provide a seat cover for an item of seating furniture which permits a high level of sitting comfort.
Summary of the invention
According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a seat cover for an item of seating furniture comprising a multi-layered fabric comprising two cover layers, wherein at least one middle layer is arranged between the cover layers, wherein at least the cover layers are formed from a knitted fabric and wherein the cover layers and the middle layer are joined to one another by stitch formation. In this respect, the inventive seat cover is formed particularly preferably having three layers, wherein the two outer cover layers and the middle layer are fixedly joined to one another. The layers are joined to one another by stitch formation, wherein the fibres of the cover layers and/or the middle layer may penetrate the respective other layer. This produces a durable textile fabric which has a high level of sitting comfort by reason of the multi-layered embodiment.
It is possible to configure the middle layer in such a manner that it has particularly good spring properties, whereas the cover layers can have a pleasant grip and are particularly durable.
The cover layers and/or the middle layer can be formed from synthetic fibres.
In particular, it is possible for the cover layers and the middle layer to be formed from polyamide. By virtue of the fact that the layers are formed from synthetic fibres, the seat cover is particularly robust and insensitive to moisture. A significant improvement in the resistance to UV light can be achieved if the synthetic fibres are equipped with an agent for UV stabilisation.
Such seat covers are highly suitable for permanent outdoor use.
Preferably, the fibres of the middle layer have a greater length-related mass than the fibres of the cover layers. The middle layer is preferably equipped to produce the spring properties of the cover. It is advantageous that the fibres of the middle layers are particularly stable.
Preferably, the fibre titre of the middle layer is at least 20 dtex. Such fibres are particularly robust and have good spring properties.
The fibre titre of the cover layers is preferably between 1 dtex and 12 dtex. Such fibres have a pleasant grip and it is possible for the cover layers to be formed in a close-meshed manner. The fibres of the middle layer may be fixedly embedded between the cover layers, wherein the close arrangement of the fibres in the cover layers can prevent coarse fibres of the middle layer from protruding.
Preferably, the middle layer spaces the cover layers apart from one another.
Furthermore, the middle layer preferably has spring properties. The spring properties of the middle layer result from the arrangement of the fibres between the cover layers. Preferably, the fibres of the middle layer extend in an arcuate manner between the cover layers, wherein the fibres of the middle layer are bent substantially in the same direction laterally, i.e. transversely with respect to the cover layers. If the fabric is compressed perpendicularly with respect to the cover layers, e.g. by a person sitting down on the item of seating furniture, the fibres of the middle layer bend uniformly and reversibly following the direction of the curvature. If the cover layers are relieved of pressure, the fibres of the middle layer straighten up and return to their original position.
The porosity of the middle layer is preferably greater than the porosity of the cover layers. In this case, it is particularly advantageous that moisture penetrating into the middle layer is then transported away from the middle layer particularly rapidly and that the middle layer stores only a negligible amount of moisture. This is particularly advantageous when items of seating furniture are stored permanently outdoors. The configuration of middle layer ensures that moisture ingress is only negligible, e.g. in the rain, and so the items of seating furniture can be used at all times. An advantageous porosity of the middle layer is between 0.1 and 0.2.
At least one cover layer can have openings. The openings can be honeycomb-shaped and can be arranged distributed in a regular manner on the cover layer. On the one hand, the openings improve the transport of moisture through the fabric and, on the other hand, also improve the spring properties of the fabric.
Preferably, the thickness of the middle layer is at least 10 times greater than the thickness of the cover layers. The total thickness of the fabric can be between 5 mm and 25 mm. The total weight per unit area of the fabric is preferably between 300 g/m2 and 1500 g/m2. A seat cover formed in this manner has a particularly high level of sitting comfort whilst being lightweight.
The weight per unit area of the fabric is relatively low and so items of seating furniture equipped therewith are easy to transport.
In accordance with a second aspect of the present invention, there is provided an item of seating furniture comprising a frame and a seat cover according to the first aspect of the invention, wherein the seat cover is fastened to the frame. The item of seating furniture is designed preferably as a folding chair for use outdoors, e.g. as a camping chair. The frame can be formed from metallic profiles and can span a sitting surface and a backrest. The seat cover may be fastened in a detachable manner to the frame and covers the sitting surface and backrest. Alternatively, the item of seating furniture can also be equipped with a footrest which is likewise formed from the frame. The frame can also be covered by the seat cover. The seat cover which covers the sitting surface, the backrest and/or the footrest may be formed in one piece.
Description of the drawings
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the following accompanying schematic drawings, of which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the seat cover; Figure 2 shows a cross-sectional view of the seat cover; Figure 3 shows the seat cover compressed; and Figure 4 shows an item of seating furniture with a seat cover.
Detailed description
The figures show a seat cover 1 for an item of seating furniture 2, in this case a folding chair. The seat cover 1 comprises a multi-layered -in this case three-layered -textile fabric 3 comprising two cover layers 4, 5 and a middle layer 6 arranged between the cover layers 4, 5. The cover layers 4, 5 are formed from a knitted fabric, wherein the cover layers 4, 5 and the middle layer are joined to one another by stitch formation.
The cover layers 4, 5 and the middle layer 6 are formed from synthetic fibres, in this case polyamide fibres. The synthetic fibres are provided with a UV stabiliser.
The fibres of the middle layer 6 have a greater length-related mass than the fibres of the cover layers 4, 5. In the case of the present exemplified embodiment, the fibre titre of the middle layer 6 is 25 dtex, the fibre titre of the cover layers 4, 5 is 6 dtex.
The middle layer 6 spaces the cover layers 4, 5 apart from one another and has spring properties. The fibre arrangement of the middle layer 6 is such that the porosity of the middle layer 6 is greater than the porosity of the cover layers 4, 5. In the present case, the porosity of the middle layer 6 is 0.15.
The thickness of the middle layer 6 is 12 times greater than the thickness of the cover layers 4, 5. In the present case, the total thickness of the fabric 3 is 15 mm and the weight per unit area of the fabric is 750 g/m2.
It can be seen in figure 1 that the cover layer 4 which forms the sitting surface and faces towards the person sitting on the seat cover 1 is provided with openings 7. The openings 7 are honeycomb-shaped.
It can be seen in figure 2 that the fibre arrangement in the middle layer 6 is such that the fibres of the middle layer 6 extend between the first cover layer 4 and the second cover layer 5 and are bent in an arcuate manner in the transverse direction and transversely with respect to the cover layers 4, 5. The fibres of the middle layer 6 are bent such that the bending line of all fibres points in the same direction.
Figure 3 shows the deformation behaviour of the seat cover 1. If a person sits down on the item of seating furniture provided with the seat cover 1, substantially only the middle layer 6 is deformed and compressed.
Figure 4 shows an item of seating furniture 2, in this case a folding chair for outdoor use. The item of seating furniture 3 comprises a frame 8 consisting of a metallic material which spans a sitting surface 9 and a backrest 10. The sitting surface 9 and the backrest 10 are covered by the seat cover 1, wherein the seat cover 1 is fastened in a detachable manner to the frame 8. In the case of the present embodiment, the seat cover 1 which covers the sitting surface 9 and the backrest 10 is formed in one piece. Alternatively, it is possible for the seat cover 1 to have multiple parts such that the sitting surface 9 and the backrest 10 are each covered separately by the seat cover
