Abstract

A refuse bin having a main body 1 with a removable base section 2, into which a bin liner 10 is placed. The main body connects to the base section via a channel 12 and sits between two rubber seals 3. The removal of the base eliminates the vacuum between the liner and the internal wall of the bin’s body. The base may be attached to the body of the bin via an additional fastening means such as helical screw thread (7, fig 4) or secured via a toggle catch, clip catch, press stud or the like. The base may have an upstand to create a bowl to collect fluid escapes from the liner, and the main body may have a deflector 4 to direct fluids into the bowl of the base. The base may also be weighted by filing the case with water or sand or attaching or filing the base with weighted blocks or discs. The seal may stop any smells emitting from the bin.

Description

Easy Clean Rubbish Bin
Description
Most homes across the world have a rubbish bin which is usually located somewhere in the kitchen. There are various types and designs from the basic plastic bin to sensor opening bins and most are used in conjunction with a bin liner to keep the inside of the bin clean and reducing the amount of times the bin requires cleaning.
All these bins have the same problem when over filled and the contents have been compacted so tightly that the airgap between the liner and bin wall has been reduced or nullified, as to create a vacuum (9), thus when trying to remove the bin liner (10) from the bin the vacuum sucks the liner down and the harder you pull the harder it is to pull the liner free. It is so frustrating struggling with the bin clamped between your legs trying to pull the liner out of the bin, sometimes tearing (11) the liner in the process. If the vacuum (9) could be broken the liner would be easier to remove.
The second problem with most bins including the ones with removable basket/bucket, is the cleaning of them once they become smelly or dirty. Rubbish bins are usually quite tall in height and it is difficult to clean the bottom, using a pair of rubber gloves and trying to scrub the bottom clean without putting your head near the opening with the smell of bleach or detergent making it difficult to breath.
Hence the idea 'Easy Clean Bin', having a main body (1) that can be separated from its bottom section (2). The wall of the main body of the bin being is lowered into a channel in the base(2) and locked in place using rubber seals (3) top and bottom of the channel which hold the body in place and also stop any smells from emitting from the inside of the bin when in use.
Once the main body is pushed firmly into the channel (12), the bin is then ready to use as you would a normal bin. Inserting a bin liner (10) inside and folding the open end of the liner over the open edge of the bin, then placing the top section (5) with its flap (6) to insert the rubbish through and place on the main bodies opening, overlapping the two sections and trapping the liner in place.
To stop any liquids (8) spilling out from a tear in the liner (11) trying to enter the channel through the seals (3) a deflector (4) is in place to direct the flow of liquid (8) over the seal and to collect in the bowl of the bottom section (2) for emptying.
When the bin is full, the lid is removed and the top of the liner tied in a knot to stop the contents spilling out. Then instead of trying to pull the liner out through the top opening of the bin simply pull the main body upwards and out of the channel (breaking the vacuum) and continue raising the body section until it is clear of the top of the liner. The full bin bag then remains in the bottom section and is easily removed.
This method will also work with bins that have an internal removable bucket; the bucket comes apart in same way in two sections when required to be emptied. The sections can also be locked together for extra stability by method of screw thread (7) incorporated in the main body and base of the bin to lock them together; however this is best suited to a round bin. The two sections could also be locked together using a Toggle catch, swing lock, clip catch, press stud or similar means of securing the two sections.
Alternatively a channel along each side of the main body from top to bottom, allowing a sliding section to move along the channel and lock into the bottom section keeping the main body in place, then pull the sliding section up to release the main body.
The two sections once separated are easily cleaned with the bottom section fitting inside the bowl of the sink for easy cleaning. The bottom section also has an upstand to create a bowl should any fluids escape from the liner and can easily be emptied. The main body is now open both ends so there is no need to stretch inside at arm's length to try and clean the bottom half as it is open both ends for ease of access.
The bottom section can also be weighed down for stability by making this section hollow, it could then be filled with water or sand. Alternatively metal blocks or discs could be inserted or attached to this section to assist in stabilizing when pulling the two sections apart.

Claims (5)

  1. Claims 1) A receptacle for the collection of household waste (5) having a main body (1), that connects with a base section (6), secured via a channel (12), held in place by rubber seals (3) and (5), that once disconnected eliminates the vacuum between the plastic liner (10) and internal wall of the receptacle.
  2. 2) A receptacle as in claims 1, whereas the main body is secured to the bottom section via a projecting helical thread.
  3. 3) A receptacle as in claims 1, held inside a larger receptacle.
  4. 4) A receptacle as in claims 1, having a hollow base (13) enabling fluid or granular material to be inserted through an inlet giving weight and extra stability to the base.
  5. 5) A receptacle as in claim 4, having a solid mass inserted into or onto the bottom (2) section for extra stability.
