Abstract

A water supply system (1, figure 1) of the circulation type, ideally a branched domestic hot water system, comprises a primary flow circuit (11, figure 1) to which plural secondary flow circuits (21-24, figure 1) are connected. Each secondary circuit has a one or more user points (5, figure 1) such as hot water or mixer taps, a commissioning regulator 7 and a combined pipe structure 14 (e.g. concentric pipes) defining an outflow conduit 16 and a return conduit 15 sharing a common wall. The regulator is connected between the primary circuit and the one or more user points of the respective secondary circuit and includes a pressure balancing valve 75 to close the return conduit, ideally via adjustment of a rotatable vane 756 that cannot fully block the return conduit to balance pressure with the other secondary circuits. An actuator (751-753, figure 4) adjusts and locks the degree of closure. An isolation valve (8, figure 6) may be used with each regulator. A commissioning regulator for a combined pipe system is also claimed.

Claims (18)

  1. CLAIMS1. A water supply system of circulating type, comprising a flow circuit for water to flow around the system and a pump connected in the flow circuit to drive the flow of water, the flow circuit comprising a primary circuit incorporating the pump, and two or more secondary circuits, the secondary circuits being connected to the primary circuit as respective branches from it, and wherein each secondary circuit has a combined pipe structure in which an outflow conduit and a return conduit of the secondary circuit have a common wall, and has one or more user points for water flowing in the secondary circuit, and each secondary circuit comprises a commissioning regulator connected between the primary circuit and said one or more user points of the secondary circuit, the commissioning regulator comprising an occlusion mechanism to C7c, occlude flow in the return conduit of the combined pipe structure, and an actuator operable to adjust the degree to C\I which the occlusion mechanism occludes that return conduit, -- and operable to set or lock the occlusion mechanism at a selected degree of occlusion.
  2. 2. Water supply system according to claim 1 in which in the combined pipe structure of the secondary circuits the outflow conduit surrounds the return flow conduit, they are concentrically arranged, and said common wall is the outer wall of the return conduit and an inner wall of the outflow conduit.
  3. 3. Water supply system according to claim 1 or 2 in which the occlusion mechanism of each commissioning regulator comprises an occlusion member positioned in the return conduit and rotatable so as to presenc a progressively variable degree of flow resistance in the return conduit.
  4. 4. Water supply system according to claim 3 in which the occlusion member is a vane presenting a maximum occlusion area at one angle to the flow direction, and a minimum at another angle to the flow direction, with a rotation of between 1200 and 700 between these positions.
  5. 5. Water supply system according to any one of the preceding claims in which the occlusion mechanism of the commissioning regulator does not operate to occlude the outflow conduit, or does not operate to vary the occlusion of the outflow conduit.
  6. 6. Water supply system according to any one of the preceding claims in which the commissioning regulator comprises no occlusion member in the outflow conduit.
  7. 7. Water supply system according to any one of the preceding claims in which the occlusion member is rotatable around a pivot axis which crosses a central or median axis of the return conduit.
  8. 8. Water supply system according to any one of the preceding claims in which in the commissioning regulator a portion of C7c, the actuator passes through or across the outflow conduit.
  9. C)J 9. Water supply system according to any one of the preceding 1-- claims in which in a position of maximum occlusion, the ()) occlusion mechanism does not completely block the return 7_25 conduit at the commissioning regulator.
  10. 10. Water supply system according to claim 9 in which in said position of maximum occlusion from 1-20% of the maximum available flow area of the remrn conduit at the location of the occlusion member remains open for flow.
  11. 11. Water supply system according to any one of the preceding claims in which the commissioning regulator comprises a body adapted to be coupled to adjacent lengths of the combined pipe, and defining a segment of conduit with first and second unions for connection to the ends of the respective combined pipe lengths, and an internal wall dividing the conduit segment defined by the regula7.or body into outflow and return flow conduit sub-regions or sectors, corresponding to the outflow and return flow conduits of the combined pipe connected to it.
  12. 12. Water supply system according to any one of the preceding claims in which one or more or all of the secondary circuits has a respective isolation valve for fully closing off both the outflow and return conduiT.s of the secondary circuit.
  13. 13. Water supply system according to claim 12 in which each isolation valve is a single device acting on both the outflow and return conduits of the combined pipe structure in the secondary circuit, and having a single movable closure element acting in relation to both the outflow and return conduits together.
  14. 14. Water supply system according to claim 12 or 13 in which the closure element of the isolation valve has an inner tube segment mounted coaxially inside an outer conduit segment so as to define inner and outer conduits respectively for return and outflow, the inner tube segment is supported inside the outer tube segment by a radial support structure, and the C7c, closure element is rotatable between open and closed positions relative to a housing or body of the isolation valve. C\I --
  15. 15. Water supply system according to claim 12, 13 or 14 in which 1_25 the rotatable closure element of the isolation valve has a spherical exterior surface portion of the outer conduit part to effect sealing of the outer conduit, or the rotatable closure element has a cylindrical or conical outer surface slidable in sealing relationship with a correspondingly-shaped cylindrical or conical seat of the housing or body of the isolation valve.
  16. 16. Water supply system according to any one of claims 12 to 15 in which each of the secondary circuits has the isolation valve positioned between a point of branching from the primary circuit and a first user poinc of the secondary circuit, and between the commissioning regulator of the secondary circuit and the primary circuit.
