Abstract
258,675. Bourassa, J. C. E. June 27, 1926. Cylinder machines; inking- apparatus; bed - reciprocating appatatus. - A continuousrevolution printing-machine is constructed so that the travel of the bed is reduced by arranging the ink-applying rollers to reciprocate in the opposite direction to the bed, and to assume finally a position under the impression cylinder which is raised from the bed after the printing operation. The bed 13 and the inking-roller frame 34 are reciprocated in opposite directions by a threaded shaft 30 formed with continuous threads engaging shoes 31, 32 on the bed and frame respectively. The impression cylinder 12 is shown in the position to commence printing in Fig. 4, and as the bed 13 moves to the left to print, the inking-rollers move to the right over the distributing-table 13x, and then over the forme carried by the lower part of the bed 13. The printing finishes, and the cylinder 12 rises before the inking-rollers move right across the forme and assume a position under the cylinder 12. The cylinder 12 is mounted in rising and falling bearings 10, and is constantly in gear with a gear 24 on the shaft 16 of the cam 15 which raises and lowers the cylinder. The cylinder 12 has a gear 25 in mesh with a gear 26 geared to the gear 24, and the gear 26 is mounted in links 28, 29 pivoted to the axes of the gears 24, 25. The gears 24, 25, 26 are so arranged that the cylinder 12 rises at the same rate as the driving-gear 24 rotates, so that the cylinder 12 remains substantially stationary for a short period, and during this period is is fed with a sheet. To reduce the friction of the bed 13 and carriage 34 antifriction rollers are used which are reciprocated by a continuouslythreaded shaft 30<a> integral with the shaft 30; the shaft 30 is driven by worm gearing from the shaft 38, and is held in its bearings in the frame bv nuts 30b and locknuts 30<c>, and the thrust is taken by antifriction bearings 30d. Tripping-arrangements.-The cylinder bearings 10 are connected by rods 17 to sliding blocks 18, 19 at each end of the cylinder, and rollers 21, 23 on the blocks are operated on by cams 15 on a shaft 16 geared to the driving-shaft 38. The cylinder is thus raised for the inking-rollers to move beneath it.
