Abstract
An adjustment device suitable for exercise, for example, in gymnastics, configured for receiving strapping, and capable of remotely adjusting the position, length or tension of the strapping, without the need for direct physical contact with the device. The device comprises a one-way locking arrangement for preventing movement of the strapping through the device in a first direction, whilst permitting movement of the strapping through the device in a second, opposing direction. Releasing the locking arrangement permits movement of the strapping through the device in either the first or second directions.
Claims (20)
1. A device for remotely adjusting a strapping system used to support a load, comprising: a housing for receiving strapping of the strapping system used to support a load; an attachment arrangement for attaching the housing to an anchor or supporting structure; an engaging member, supported relative to the housing and biased towards a first configuration suitable for engaging the strapping, wherein in the first configuration the engaging member is configured to apply a force acting towards the housing, which prevents movement of the strapping relative to the device in a first direction but permits movement of the strapping in a second, opposing, direction; an actuator connected to the engaging member, the actuator configured to move the engaging member from the first configuration to a second configuration, wherein in the second configuration, the force applied towards the housing by the engaging member is reduced or removed, suitable for permitting movement of the strapping through the device in either the first direction or the second, opposing, direction
2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the engaging member is a cam.
3. The device of claim 1 or 2, wherein the device comprises a plurality of the engaging members.
4. The device of claim 1 , 2 or 3, wherein the actuator comprises an actuator arm.
5. The device of claim 4, wherein the actuator arm comprises a notch suitable for engagement with the engaging member.
6. The device of claim 1 , 2 or 3, wherein the device comprises a locking arrangement for releasably securing the second end of the strapping to prevent movement of the strapping in either the first direction or the second direction.
7. The device of any preceding claim, wherein at least a portion of the housing is textured, suitable for increasing the friction of the surface in contact with the strapping.
8. The device of any preceding claim, wherein the engaging member is biased by a spring.
9. The device of any preceding claim, wherein the actuator comprises a rotatable portion, suitable for reducing friction of the strapping through the device.
10. The device of any preceding claim, further comprising a reel configured to receive and retract a second end of the strapping.
11. The device of claim 10, wherein the reel is configured to deploy and/or retract the strapping.
12. The device of claim 10 or 11 , wherein the reel is configured to maintain a constant tension on the second end of the strapping.
13. The device of any preceding claim, comprising an integrated carabiner.
14. The device of any preceding claim, further comprising an extension arrangement for remotely operating the actuator.
15. An assembly comprising: the device of any one of claims 1 to 15; and strapping.
16. The assembly of claim 15, wherein the strapping comprises or takes the form of one or more of: a strap, webbing, cord, rope, cable, chain, wire rope, rigging.
17. Use of the device according to any one of claims 1 to 14 to remotely adjust a strapping system used to support a load.
18. Use of the device according to any one of claims 1 to 14 as an exercise device.
19. Use of the device according to any one of claims 1 to 14 as a user mobility aid.
20. A method of using the device according to any one of claims 1 to 14 comprising: connecting the device to an anchor or supporting structure via the attachment arrangement; inserting the strapping into the housing of the device, the strapping having a first and second end; and disposing the strapping on a portion of the actuator with the first end of the strapping inserted between the engaging member and the back member, wherein, when the at least one engaging member is in a first configuration, movement of the strapping through the device is prevented in a first direction; but permitted in a second, opposing direction; and wherein applying a force to the actuator releases the engaging member, permitting movement of the strapping through the device in either the first direction or the opposing second direction.
