Abstract

An electrical property of a material 4 is measured using a circuit including a high frequency sinusoidal generator 1, which applies a current to the material via contact electrodes A, B and switch K1 when in position 1. The voltage Vab across the material is measured by a microprocessor unit (MPU) 6 via switch K2 in position 1 and ADC 5. After this measurement is made, relay 3 moves switches K1, K2 to position 2. This disconnects the sinusoidal source 1 from the material. Any equivalent EMF or voltage ELEQ produced by the material is then measured by MPU 6, switch K2 in position 2, and ADC 7. The measurements made may be repeated in multiple time intervals. Electrotechnical parameters of the material which may be calculated include: admittance, conductance, impedance, resistance, capacitance, short circuit current, active power, reactive power, active or reactive energy, or current flow across the terminals a, b in the material. A multi-channel version of the circuit (figure 8) is also disclosed.
