Description

WINDOW LIFTER ASSEMBLY AND MANUFACTURING METHOD
FIELD
[0001] The proposed solution relates to a drive unit for a vehicle window as well as to a window lifter assembly.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Window lifter assemblies for adjusting a vehicle window are already well-known. Such window lifter assemblies may comprise a flexible traction element for transmitting an adjustment force to adjust the vehicle window. For example, the flexible traction element may comprise a rope, cable, wire or belt and may be connected to a drive unit as well as to at least one slider of the window lifter assembly to which the vehicle window is fixed. Upon actuation of the drive unit the at least one slider is displaced. The at least one slider may thus move the vehicle window up and down upon actuation of the drive unit, which drive unit for example comprises an electric drive motor.
For guiding the flexible traction element typically several guiding elements are provided, for example in the form of rotatably mounted pulleys or immovable guiding pieces.
[0003] For applying an adjustment force to the at least one slider of the window lifter assembly the drive motor may rotate a cable drum via a drive shaft coupled to the drive motor. Due to the rotation of the cable drum a flexible traction element, for example in the form of a cable, rope or wire is wound to and unwound from the cable drum thereby moving the cable and applying an adjustment force to the at least one slider to which the window is mounted. The cable drum is typically accommodated in a separate cable drum housing which may be fastened to the drive unit. In our mounted state, the drive unit is fixed to a carrier member of the window lifter assembly which carrier member may for example be provided by a door panel of a vehicle door. The drive unit and the cable drum housing may form are pre-assembled window regulator unit which may be affixed to the carrier member.
[0004] Different solutions for fixing parts of a window regulator unit to a carrier member are known. For example, a drive unit may be separately fixed to an inner side of an inner panel of the vehicle door, whereas the cable drum housing accommodating the cable drum is fixed to an outer side of the inner panel coupling the cable drum to the drive shaft of the drive unit extending through a through hole in the inner panel. Such a configuration is however not feasible for certain window lifter assemblies. In the case both the drive unit and the cable drum housing are to be mounted on one side of a carrier member are simple fixation of the window regulator unit can be challenging, in particular, if the fixation shall be independent from the type of the carrier member and thus, for example, independent from the question whether the window lifter assembly shall be provided for a left or right vehicle door.
[0005] Consequently, a solution shall be provided due to which assembly of the window lifter assembly may be further facilitated.
SUMMARY
[0006] The proposed solution in particular relates to the drive unit for a vehicle window lifter comprising a drive motor, a housing, and a drive shaft coupled to the drive motor. The drive shaft is configured to be rotated by the drive motor for driving a cable drum of the week of window lifter. The housing may comprise at least one fastening region for fastening a cable drum housing accommodating the cable drum to the housing of the drive unit. Furthermore, the housing of the drive unit comprises a fixation region coaxial to the drive shaft for fixing the drive unit to a carrier member of the vehicle window lifter.
[0007] In an exemplary embodiment, the fixation region may thus be configured for fixing the drive unit to the carrier member by mounting a fixing element, for example, a screw, a bolt or a clip, to the fixation region. The fixing element can generally be attached to or be integrally formed at the carrier member. By connecting the fixing element to the carrier member and to the drive unit at the fixation region the drive unit is fixed to the carrier member, and thus, for example, to a panel for a vehicle door. By a fixation region being arranged coaxially to the drive shaft at the housing of the drive unit it may be possible to omit an (additional) fixation region for fixing the drive unit to the carrier member at a portion of the housing extending radially to the drive shaft. A coaxially arranged fixation region may thus in particular reduce the dimensions of the housing and in particular the dimensions of portions of the housing required for fixing the drive unit to the carrier member.
[0008] In an exemplary embodiment, the fixation region is integrally formed on an exterior wall of the housing of the drive unit. A connection of an exterior wall of the housing to the carrier member is hence possible at the fixation region.
[0009] The fixation region may for example comprise a protruding boss portion. Such a boss portion may include a bore for a screw or bolt for fixing the drive unit to the carrier 35 member.
[0010] In an exemplary embodiment a protruding boss portion of the fixation region includes at least one enforcement rib. Such at least one enforcement rib may be provided for structurally increasing the strength of the boss portion. At least one rib at the boss portion may allow for absorbing higher forces occurring when fixing the drive unit to the carrier member and for absorbing higher forces acting on the fixation region during operation of the window lifter. Generally, several enforcement ribs may be provided at the boss portion.
[0011] In an exemplary embodiment, the boss portion protrudes from a side face of the housing along a protruding direction and the at least one enforcement rib extends on an outer surface of the boss portion along the protruding direction. The at least one enforcement rib may thus in particular extend longitudinally along a protruding direction along which also the boss portion protrudes from a side face of the housing.
[0012] In an exemplary embodiment, the fixation region is configured for fixing the drive unit to the carrier member by a fastening clip. The drive unit is hence configured to be fixed to the carrier member by at least one fixing element not being a screw or bolt. A fixation region for such a fixing element may also be provided coaxially to the drive shaft according to the proposed solution.
[0013] Furthermore, a window lifter assembly is proposed which comprises a drive unit, a cable drum housing, and a carrier member. The drive unit may include a drive motor, a housing, and a drive shaft coupled to the drive motor and configured to be rotated by the drive motor. The cable drum housing may be fastened to the housing of the drive unit and may accommodate a rotatable cable drum coupled to the drive shaft for being rotated by the drive motor. The carrier member, for example including a panel of a vehicle door, may furthermore be provided for carrying the drive unit fixed to the carrier member. The housing of the drive unit comprises a fixation region coaxial to the drive shaft at which the drive unit is fixed to the carrier member.
[0014] In an exemplary embodiment, the housing of the drive unit is screwed or bolted to the carrier member at the fixation region. The fixation region, which coaxially arranged at the housing of the drive unit to the drive shaft, is hence configured for interacting with a fixing element in the form of a screw or bolt used for fixing the drive unit to the carrier member. In this context, the drive unit may for example be screwed or bolted to the carrier member by a screw or bolt which includes a threaded portion extending coaxially to the drive shaft and -at least partially -into to a portion of the fixation region.
[0015] In an exemplary embodiment, the window lifter assembly comprises a guide rail defining an adjustment path for a window to be adjusted by the drive unit. In particular, the window lifter assembly may comprise a single guide rail for defining the adjustment path for the window. In case a single guide rail is provided, the adjustable window is typically connected to a single slider slideably engaging the single rail and applying the adjustment force for moving the window.
[0016] The cable drum housing may include a back face fixed to the housing of the drive unit and a front face to which a portion of a guide rail is fixed. In such an embodiment a pre-assembled window regulator unit may for example be provided comprising the cable drum housing and the drive unit already being fastened to each other. The window regulator unit may furthermore be fastened to the guide rail for forming a pre-assembled and fully functional window regulator module configured to be fixed to the carrier member. The window regulator unit comprising the cable drum housing and the drive unit may thus be fixed to the guide rail at the front face of the cable drum housing, wherein the both the rail and the window regulator unit are subsequently fixed to the carrier member by fixing the guide rail to the carrier member and by additional fixing the drive unit to the carrier member via the fixation region arranged coaxially to the drive shaft of the drive unit.
[0017] A window regulator unit comprising the drive unit and the cable drum housing fixed to the drive unit may, in an exemplary embodiment, just be fixed to the carrier member by a connection between the carrier member and the drive unit. A fixation of the window regulator unit may therefore be carried out by fixing the housing of the drive unit to the carrier member at the fixation region being arranged coaxially to the drive shaft. The cable drum housing may just be fastened to the housing of the drive unit but not directly fastened to the carrier member.
[0018] As already outlined above, the carrier member may for example include a door panel for a vehicle door, in particular an inner door panel, to which the housing of the drive unit is fixed at the fixation region.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0028] FIGs 5, 6 and 6A show a window lifter assembly comprising a carrier member in the form of an inner panel 5 for a vehicle door. The inner panel 5 defines a window frame 51 and a mounting area 50 below the window frame 51. At the substantially plane mounting area 50 functional components of the vehicle door are to be mounted. In FIG 5 parts of a vehicle window lifter are mounted to the inner panel 5 including a single guide rail 6. The guide rail 6 carries a slider 7 which may slide along the guide rail 6 and which is configured to be coupled to a window so that upon movement of the slider 7 along the guide rail 6 the window can be moved up and down.
[0029] At a middle portion of the guide rail 6 a mounting region 60 is defined. At this mounting region 60 of the guide rail 6 the guide rail 6 is fixed to a cable drum housing 3 of a window regulator unit U by fixing elements, here in the form of screws or bolts 6s. The cable drum housing 3 accommodates a cable drum for displacing a flexible traction element, for example a cable, rope or wire, to which the slider 7 is coupled so that by rotating the cable drum the slider 7 can be moved up and down along the rail. 6. The cable drum is rotatable about a rotation axis D within the cable drum housing 3 and may be rotated by a drive motor of the window regulator unit U, preferably an electric drive motor.
[0030] Whereas a front face of the cable drum housing 3 is fixed to the mounting region 60 of the rail 6, a drive unit of the window regulator U including the drive motor is fixed to an opposite back face of the cable drum housing 3 via several (in the present embodiment three) fixing elements in the form of screws and/or bolts 3as, 3sb and 3sc.
[0031] The cable drum housing 3 furthermore comprises a fixation leg 30 extending radially with respect to the rotation axis D. A boss portion 301 is integrally formed at this fixation leg 30. At the boss portion 301 the cable drum housing 3 is screwed to the inner panel 5 by a fixation screw 4 as shown in the cross-sectional view of FIG 6A.
[0032] In order to omit the fixation leg 30 and to thus reduce the overall size of the window regulator unit U a drive unit 1 of Figures 1A to 4A integrates a boss portion 111 extending coaxially to the rotational axis D and hence to a drive shaft 2 which is to be coupled to the cable drum. The boss portion 111 protrudes from a side face of a gear housing 110 of the drive unit 1. The gear housing 110 of the drive unit 1 accommodates a gearing device 11 which is coupled to an electric drive motor 10 of the drive unit 1. The boss portion 111 includes several longitudinal enforcement ribs on an outer surface of the boss portion 111. Along a central axis of the boss portion 111 a bore is provided into which a fixation screw 4 may be screwed for fixing the drive unit 1 and the window regulator unit U comprising the drive unit 1 to the inner panel 5.
[0033] In addition to the boss portion 111 for fixing the drive unit 1 to the inner panel 5 at a location coaxially to the drive shaft 2, the gear housing 110 integrates several fastening regions with fastening bores 11a, 11b, and 11c for fastening the cable drum housing 3 to the gear housing 110 of the drive unit 1. The drive unit 1 further includes a connector 12 for connecting the drive unit 1 to a power source and a control circuit for controlling operation of the drive motor 10.
[0034] As can in particular be seen from FIGs 2, 3, 4 and 4A, the drive unit 1 with the additional boss portion 111 arranged coaxially to the drive shaft 2 allows for fixing a pre-assembled window regulator unit U (including the drive unit 1 and the cable drum housing 3) to the inner panel 5 without an additional fixation leg 30 at the cable drum housing 3.
The overall size of the window regulator unit U may thus be reduced. The positioning of the coaxial boss portion 111 also allows for a fixation of the drive unit 1 at an inner panel 5 irrespective of the type of the vehicle door. For example, a fixation of the window regulator unit U and in particular the drive unit 1 coaxially to the drive shaft 2 allows for using the drive unit 1 for both left and right vehicle doors without any modifications.
[0035] Furthermore, the proposed solution allows for pre-assembling a window lifter module including the window lifter with the guide rail 6, the slider 7 attached to the guide rail 6, a cable 8 for driving the slider 6 and the window regulator unit U coupled to the cable 8 for driving the slider 7. The window lifter module may then fixed to the inner panel 5 by just fastening the guide rail 6 to the inner panel Sand by screwing the fixation screw 4 through a through-hole in the inner panel 5 directly into the boss portion 111 and thus into the gear housing 11 of the dive unit 1. Accordingly, the single rail 6 may be fixed to a front face of the cable drum housing 3 and the drive unit 1 may be fixed to a back face of the cable drum housing 3 before fixing the drive unit 1 to the inner panel 5 by screwing the fixation screw 4 through the inner panel 5 and coaxially to the drive shaft 2 into the boss portion 111.
