Description

WINDOW BLIND BRACKET COVER
The present invention relates to a window blind bracket cover for use with a window blind side-guiding system.
A window blind, such as a roller blind, is traditionally mounted to a window surround via a bracket at either side of the window blind, with the brackets being fixed to the window surround using screw fixings through a fixing plate of the bracket and with the window blind being mounted to a mounting plate of the bracket. In order to provide a decorative finish, such brackets can be housed within bracket covers, which are slid onto the brackets after the brackets have been fixed to the window surround and prior to mounting the window blind to the brackets. In some window blind arrangements, a side-guiding system can be provided which may comprise taut guidewires that pass through guides on either side of the bottom bar of the window blind. The guidewires help to retain the window blind adjacent to the window, for example when the window has been opened to allow a breeze through and/or when the window is non-vertical. However, such side-guiding systems typically have complex and untidy arrangements for fixing the ends of the guidewires to the window surround and often cannot readily be used in conjunction with bracket covers.
It is desired to provide an improved window blind bracket cover for use 20 with a window blind side-guiding system.
According to an aspect of the present invention there is provided a window blind bracket cover for use with a window blind side-guiding system, the bracket cover comprising a cover body for housing a window blind bracket, the -2 -cover body having a first opening through which the window blind bracket is receivable and a second opening through which a window blind is mountable to the window blind bracket when the window blind bracket is housed within the cover body, the cover body further comprising a guidewire aperture for receiving and retaining a guidewire for the window blind.
As will be appreciated, embodiments of the present invention relate to a window blind bracket cover which can provide a decorative finish to a window blind bracket, for example which can substantially hide one or more fixings and/or mountings of the bracket. Furthermore, the Applicants have uniquely identified that the bracket cover itself can also serve to receive and retain a guidewire for the window blind, and that this can remove the need to provide a separate arrangement for fixing one end of the guidewire to the window surround.
In embodiments, the cover body may comprise a fixing plate portion for covering a fixing plate of the window blind bracket and/or may comprise a mounting plate portion for covering a mounting plate of the window blind bracket. These embodiments can allow one or more fixings and/or mountings of the bracket to be covered. The fixing plate portion of the cover body may be substantially perpendicular to the mounting plate portion of the cover body. The cover body may therefore have a substantially L-shaped cross-section. These embodiments can provide a highly stable bracket cover and bracket. The cover body may have a notch for receiving a cover removal tool, such as a screwdriver. The notch may be located on a fixing plate portion of the cover body. These embodiments can facilitate later removal of the bracket cover from -3 -the bracket. The guidewire aperture may be provided through a (substantially L-shaped) side wall of the cover body. A further guidewire aperture may be provided through another (e.g. opposite and/or substantially L-shaped) side wall of the cover body. These embodiments can provide one or more convenient and stable locations at which to retain the guidewire for different orientations of the bracket. The cover body may be formed of (e.g. moulded) plastics material. According to another aspect of the present invention there is provided a window blind side-guiding system comprising a bracket cover as described herein in any aspect or embodiment, the system further comprising a window blind bracket receivable within the cover body through the first opening.
In embodiments, the window blind bracket may comprise a fixing plate having one or more fixing apertures for fixing the window blind bracket to a window surround surface and/or may comprise a mounting plate having one or more mounting locations for mounting the window blind to the window blind bracket. The one or more mounting locations may comprise one or more apertures and/or projections (e.g. spindles). The fixing plate of the window blind bracket may be substantially perpendicular to the mounting plate of the window blind bracket. The window blind bracket may therefore have a substantially L-shaped cross-section. The interior shape of the bracket cover may substantially conform to the external shape of the window blind bracket, e.g. with a friction fit therebetween. These embodiments can provide a highly stable bracket cover and bracket.
According to another aspect of the present invention there is provided a window blind side-guiding system comprising a bracket cover as described -4 -herein in any aspect or embodiment, the system further comprising a guidewire receivable and retainable by the guidewire aperture.
In embodiments, the end of the guidewire may comprise a retaining element. The retaining element may have a dimension which is greater in size than the guidewire aperture. The retaining element may be crimped or clamped onto an end of the guidewire. The end of the guidewire (e.g. the retaining element) may be retained within the cover body when the guidewire is received and retained by the guidewire aperture. These embodiments can provide a convenient and neat way to retain the end of the guidewire within the cover body.
In any of the aspects or embodiments described herein, the system may further comprise a window blind having one or more mounting points mountable to the window blind bracket through the second opening when the window blind bracket is housed within the cover body. The one or more mounting points may comprise one or more projections (e.g. spindles) and/or apertures. The window blind may comprise a roller blind. The window blind may comprise a guide through which the guidewire may pass. The guide may comprise an aperture or loop through which the guidewire may pass. The guide may be provided at an end of a bottom bar of the window blind.
In embodiments, the system may further comprise a fixing arrangement for fixing a second end of the guidewire to a window surround surface. Any desired and suitable fixing arrangement may be used. For example, the fixing arrangement may comprise a threaded element fixable to the window surround and a threaded bezel threadingly engageable with the threaded element. The -5 -threaded bezel may comprise a bezel aperture through which the guidewire may pass. The second end of the guidewire may comprise a second retaining element. The second retaining element may have a dimension which is greater in size than the bezel aperture. The second retaining element may be crimped or clamped onto the second end of the guidewire. The second end of the guidewire (e.g. the second retaining element) may be retained within the bezel. These embodiments can provide a convenient and neat way to retain the second end of the guidewire.
In any of the aspects or embodiments described herein, the system may comprise two covers, two brackets and/or two guidewires as described herein in any aspect or embodiment for respective ends of the window blind. The window blind may comprise two guides through which respective guidewires may pass. The system may comprise two fixing arrangements for fixing respective second ends of respective guidewires to window surround surfaces.
By way of example only, embodiments of the invention will now be described in detail with reference being made to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a first perspective view of a window blind bracket cover according to an embodiment of the present invention; Figure 2 is a second perspective view of the bracket cover of Figure 1; Figure 3 shows a window blind bracket for use with the bracket cover of Figures 1 and 2; Figure 4 shows elements of a side-guiding system comprising the bracket cover of Figures 1 and 2; -6 -Figure 5 shows the elements of the side-guiding system of Figure 4 in use in a first orientation; Figure 6 shows the elements of the side-guiding system of Figure 4 in use in a second orientation; and Figure 7 shows further elements of the side-guiding system of Figure 4.
