Abstract

An instrumented rail fishplate comprising a multiparameter embedded transducer that is mounted into the fishplate. The fishplate is attached to the rail via clamps. The instrumental fishplate may be used to weigh trains, count axles, measure stress free temperature, measure actual temperature, wheels flats and longitudinal stress. The electronic voltage may be converted into engineering units and may be broadcast to a headquarters centre via the internet. Once uploaded to the headquarters, the engineering units may be recorded in a spreadsheet via special software. The spreadsheet or specific parameters may also be displayed or accessed on mobile phones via an app.

Description

DESCRIPTION
The use of fishplates to provide carriers for the RWL multiparameter transducer on railways to monitor the railway condition. This has the advantage over previous patents in that:- 1. It is preassembled and transferable onto the rail web.
2. It is transportable from one rail position to another.
3. It requires no direct drilling into the rail.
4. It can be used to accurately weigh rail vehicles (+/-0.5%) accuracy.
5. It provides continuous monitoring of FST, stress (vertical and horizontal), temperature, wheel flats etc. 6. The use of simple rail clamps, already available in large numbers, make it economic and easily installed.
7. The transducer provides electronic outputs than can be easily calibrated and converted to engineering units.
8. The outputs can be broadcast to the interne of things and then provide information for mobile phones worldwide.

Claims (8)

  1. CLAIMS1. An Instrumented Rail Fishplate whereby a multiparameter embedded transducer is mounted into the fish plate. This maybe a metal foil strain gauge loaded to the fishplate.
  2. 2. The fishplate is normally attached by clamps as shown in FIG 1 & 2.
  3. 3. When the fishplate, so instrumented, are attached to the railweb either side of the rail, as in FIG 1 & 2, the accuracy of this arrangement for weighing purposes is considerable enhanced C/P using only one side and one fishplate.
  4. 4. The arrangement as described in Claims 2 & 3 can be used to weigh trains, count axles, measure stress free temperature, actual temperature, wheel flats and longitudinal stress.
  5. 5. The electronic voltage output can be converted into engineering units.
  6. 6. The engineering units, in electronic voltage form, can be broadcast to a headquarters centre as well as to the intend of things.
  7. 7. After broadcast the engineering units can be put into spreadsheet form via special software.
  8. 8. This spreadsheet or individual parameters can be captured and displayed on mobile phones as "apps".
