257,697. Bergstein, S. June 22, 1925. Coating and damping machines.-In a machine for forming paper boxes from blank held on formers 4a, the top folded end flaps are supplied with adhesive from a receptacle 5 reciprocated from the main shaft 16 to bring a number of spring - tensioned valve stops 77, which coact with ports in the bottom of the receptacle, into contact with the folded flaps to open the ports and allow adhesive to be deposited from each stop on to the flaps; each stop 77 has an internal stem 91 which normally contacts with the flaps to open the port, but which may be raised within the stop to render the port inoperative. The lower flaps are glued by contact with spring-tensioned pins 89 on a reciprocating member 82, the pins on their downward reciprocation passing into a receptacle 78 to collect adhesive; any of the pins may be rendered inoperative by holding them below their normal level in the member 82.
