Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of determining a mineralogical property or a petrophysical or geohydrological parameter of a sample of drill cuttings from drilling during an oil, gas or water operation. The method comprises making first and second single point measurements of magnetic susceptibility of the sample of drill cuttings 50. The first single point measurement is made by applying a magnetic field having an applied magnetic field strength of at least 50 mT. The second single point measurement is made by applying a magnetic field having an applied magnetic field strength of less than 50 mT. The method further comprises determining the mineralogical property or a value of the petrophysical or geohydrological parameter in dependence on: the first and second single point measurements and no other measurement of magnetic susceptibility of the sample; and predetermined mineralogical property information or petrophysical or geohydrological parameter information stored as a function of magnetic susceptibility 54.
