Abstract

Headrest 1 comprises cushion 2 having front face 3 and a rear face. Mounting panel 5 covers the rear face of the cushion and is engageable with a support surface, such as a window panel or a wall panel, for detachably mounting the cushion on the support surface. The mounting panel being formed of a non-slip rubber material which forms a “sticky” panel on a rear face of the cushion. The cushion may comprise cylindrical main body 9 with integral radially outwardly extending hand grip portion 8 projecting outwardly from a side of the main body. A cover flap may be hingedly attached to the cushion for movement between a closed position, where the mounting panel is covered, and an open position, exposing the mounting panel for use.

Description

This Invention.· relates to a headrest for travellers on road or rail vehicles, aircraft or boats, collectively referred to herein as transport, vehicles.
Travellers-often try to steep during a journey. However, many find if difficult to do so because of the discomfort involved typically when seated in the transport TO vehicle. Various pillows, neck cushions and the like have been proposed for the improved comfort of the traveller when trying to sleep during a journey. These have had varying degrees of success, but are not always satisfactory as they often slip during use anti the traveller's head may end up abutting a hard window or wall panel adjacent the seat which is often vibrating during movement of the transport IS vehicle. Further, many of the pillows, neck cushions, etc. are relatively bulky and thus not convenient for the traveller.
The present invention is directed towards overcoming these problems.
Summary of the Invention
According to the invention there is provided a headrest, comprising a cushion having a front lace and a rear face and a mounting panel or; the rear face of the cushion for detachably mounting the cushion on a support surface. Thus, advantageously the 25 headrest can be mounted on a support surface and is. prevented from moving during use providing comfort for the traveller.
In one embodiment of the invention a cover flap is provided for overlying the mountingpan®: w.nen the mounting panel is not in use. Conveniently the cover flap provides 30 protection tor the mounting panel and prevents soiling of the mounting panel when it is not In use in a turther embodiment of the invention the cover flap is attached to the cushion,

In another embodiment of the invention, the cushion comprises a cylindrical main body with a radially outwardly extending hand grip portion projecting outwardly from a side of the main body.
In another embodiment of the invention, the mounting panel comprises a non-slip 15 rubber or rubber-like material Other non-slip materials could alternatively be used to essentially provide a ’'sticky” panel for attachment to the support surface and retain the headrest on the support surface during use.
In another embodiment of the invention an attachment clip is mounted on the cushion. 20 Thus, advantageously 'when not in use. the headrest may conveniently be attached to baggage of the traveller, or fo the belt of the traveller.
Coriveuienfiy the attachment clip is secured by an associated loop at a side of the cushion.
in anoiher embodiment of ine invention the cushion comprises an outer casing within which is mounted, a resilient core. Preferably the core comprises a resilient foam material. Most preferably the foam pore comprises a memory foam This provides excellent comfort for the user.

The/casing may be formed of any suitable material, although it is envisaged that a 35 material which is smart and readily easily cleaned as necessary will be preferred, such

Preferably fee casing is relat-vew compact so that it is easily carried or stored when not in use. Ideally: the casing has a diameter in the range of 80mm - 150mm, end 5 most preferably has a diameter of about 110mm.
The outer basing may convenienfiy be pear-shaped.

Detaited Description of the Preferred Embodiments
Referring fe the drawings, and initially to Fig. 1 to Fig. 3 thereof, there is illustrated a 20 headrest according to the Invention indicated generally by the reference numeral 1,
The headrest 1 comprises a cushion 2 having a front face 3 and a rear face 4. A mounting panel 5 covering the rear face 4 of ths cushion 2 is engagabte with a support surface, such as a window panel or a wail panel for detachably mounting the cushion 2 on the support surface, the mounting pane! being formed of a non-slip 26 rubber material which forms a '’sticky panel on a rear face of the cushion 2
The cushion 2 comprises an outer casing 6 within which is mounted a resilient foam core of a memory foam material. The outer casing 6 comprises the front face 3 and the rear face 4 spaced-aparf from the front face 3 with a side wall 7 extending 30 therebetween and essentially perpendicular to the front face 3 and rear face 4,
Preferably tne outer casing 6 is made of a material that is easily wiped clean, such as leather or a plastics material in another arrangement a washable removable uuisr cover might be provided for the cushion 2.
A hand grip 8 is formed on the cushion 2, projecting outwardly from the cushion 2.

The cushion 2 comprises a cylindrical mm·· body 9 with an integral radial’y outwardly extending hand grip portion 8 projecting outwardiy from < side of the main body 9.
It is desirable that the cushion 2 be relatively compact for ease of use and convenience when not in use, and to this end the man body 9 of the cushion 2 has a dmmeter D in the order of 80mm - 150mm, and preferably is about 110mm. The depth of the side wall ? is about 20mm.
Again, for the convenience of the traveller, an attachment clip 10 is mounted oh.the cushion 2, being secured by an associated loop 11 at a top side wail 12 of the cushion 2.
Various indicia 15, advertising massages, logos and the like: may be mounted on 15 -the front face 3, or side wall 7 if desired.
in use, the neaorest 1 may conveniently be stored within the traveller's luggage, or attached to an exterior of the luggage by means of the attachment clip 10. or indeed may aiso conveniently be worn or· the belt of the traveller by means of the 20 attacnment clip 10 or stored in a garment pocket. The reiativeiy compact size of the cushion 2 means the headrest 1 is convenient' to carry either on the traveller's parson, or in or on their luggage When the traveller wishes to sleep the headrest 1 is placed against a window or-wall panel and the sticky mounting panei 5 securesthe headrest 1 on the support surface at an appropriate location so that rhe traveller 25 can rest their head against th© cushion 2. In this regard, the hand grip 8 facilitates in positioning the cushion 2 correctly for optimum comfort. The sticky mounting panel 5 ensures the cushion 2 is maintained in position on the support surface during use. .After use., the headrest 1 can be readily easily peeled away from the support surface and stored as previously described.
Referring now to. Figs. 4 to 15, there is shown another headrest according to a second embodiment, of the invention indicated generally by th® reference numeral

mounting panel 5. as shown in. Figs, 4 to 9, and an open position exposing the mounting panel 5 for use, as shown in Figs. 10 to 15; it will be noted, particularly from Fig. 6, that the. mounting panel 5 in this case does not fully cover the rear face: 4 of the cushion 2. Advantageously the cove- 21 protects the mounting panel 5 when not in 5 use, preventing soiling of the mounting panel 5 which might, adversely affect the stickiness and thus the effectiveness in use. of the mounting panel 5.
