Abstract

A right angled scaffolding surface protector comprising two layers, consisting of a mild steel top layer and a nylon bottom packer layer, which prevents damage to a surface by preventing a scaffold clamp screw being pressed directly onto the surface during tightening of a scaffold girder clamp. The surface protector is placed between the surface to be secured to and the scaffold girder clamp, and acts as a packer or spacer. The surface protector also comprises a hole on the upstand which allows a chain to secure it to another part of the scaffold or clamp, to prevent the device from falling if accidentally dropped from height.

‘Surface Protector’
Description
The 'Surface Protector1 is to be used in conjunction with a scaffold girder clamp.
The girder clamp bolt is undone to remove, and the loop end of the surface protector retaining chain is placed over the clamp bolt, the bolt is then inserted back onto the clamp, this now attaches the surface protector to the clamp which eliminates accidental droppage, especially when being used at height.
When the clamp is used to secure a scaffold structure the surface protector is positioned between the clamp bolt and surface to be protected, and then secured in the usual manner.
The material is mild steel 95mm long, 25mm wide, 5mm thick with a 15mm right angle upstand and securing chain and nylon packer,

  1. ‘Surface Protector’
    Claim
    The ‘Surface Protector' is for protecting various surfaces from point load damage caused when a clamp device is attached in order to create a physical tie or fixing.
    The ‘Surface Protector’ will be used a packer element between the clamp and surface to be protected. The ‘Surface Protector’ will be constructed to from two layers, one of which will take the load of the clamp, and the other will be constructed with a material to grip and protect the surface to which it will be attached.
    The ‘Surface Protector’ will be best suited towards the scaffolding industry, and particularly with scaffold girder clamps which grip to a surface by a clamp bolt which grips with physical force.
