Abstract

An illuminated sports net display is formed by applying a luminous medium to a sports net. The luminous medium is formed of a frame/mesh of optical fibre, e-textile, e-mesh, electroluminescent wire/fibre, or preferably as an arrangement of strips of LEDs arranged so as to light up to reproduce a specific logo, advertising message, information message or the like. A receiver 3 is provided which communicates, e.g. wirelessly, with a processor 4. A cable connected to a source of electrical power is also provided. The luminous medium is attached to the mesh of the sports net, e.g. by fasteners or entwining. The sports net may be a goal for football, handball, etc. or a net for volleyball, tennis, etc. The display may be arranged to illuminate when a point or goal is scored.

Description

Luminous Medium Applied To A Sports Net,

For A System For Delivering Advertising

The description relates to an application for a patent of invention for equipment developed from a luminous medium, preferably comprising a frame with strips of LEDs organised so as to reproduce a logo, advertising message or the like, incorporating a signal receiver in its circuit. The medium is applied to the sports net, whether for football, tennis or other sport, for communication at a remote location with a pre-programmed processor. When points are scored during a sporting event the processor sends a coded signal to the luminous medium’s receiver which in turn responds to the signals by projecting predetermined luminous messages by switching on the LEDs, thus making it possible to deliver advertising in an effective way in stadia, arenas, gymnasia and other venues.

As is known from the state of the art, advertising is made very great use of in sporting environments. For this displays, images and posters are installed at strategic points in stadia, gymnasia, arenas or other similar localities so that the spectators will constantly see the logos of companies from a large number of industries, such as sports, shoe or clothes shops, banking systems, in fact a plurality of sectors in commerce and industry. In this respect mention may be made of patent document MU 89006931-3 entitled Sports Net With Advertising Messages In A Subliminal And/Or Direct Form, in which a sports net receives advertising messages in a subliminal and/or direct form. Thus the nets used to define goal spaces (in football, handball) or to divide sectors of a court (in tennis, volleyball) are important display locations for the delivery of advertising during a sporting event. These images are generally created on the cords of the net, in different colours so that they are prominent on the goal during for example a game of football or on the net during a game of volleyball.

Although delivering advertising, these conventional media only constitute a colour difference in the mesh of the net or mere painting on the fabric to form the desired image. Thus this type of advertising is limited and does not provide a variety of information. If the content of the advertising has to be changed the entire sports net has to be replaced and thrown away so that a new net with a different advertising message can be used.

It was in thinking about these disadvantages that the inventor developed a luminous medium which can be applied so that it is incorporated with the mesh of the net for sports games. Such a medium comprises LEDs arranged so as to light up automatically so as to reproduce the desired advertising, through communication with a processor containing this pre-programmed information, forming a system which in the course of a sporting event will light up the advertising image at specific times in various sporting events.

Briefly explained, the medium in question will be better understood from the following drawings:

In accordance with the appended drawings, the luminous medium applied to a sports net, for a system for delivering advertising, comprises, as shown in Figure 1, the luminous medium (1) formed by a frame/mesh having an array of strips of LEDs (2) organised so as to light up in an orderly way to reproduce a particular logo, advertising message, information message or the like. This medium (1) is integrated with a receiver (3) communicating with a processor (4).

When installed the luminous medium (1) is connected by cable to an electrical power supply (not shown) and attached (by means of fasteners, entwining or other common methods of attachment) to the surface of the mesh of the sports net (R) delimiting the goals in football, handball and similar sports, sports nets (R) dividing up the courts in volleyball, tennis and similar sports and other events so that the luminous display is strategically positioned so as to be seen by the public in arenas, gymnasia, stadia and other similar locations. In this condition the processor (4) together with its duly defined (dedicated) logical programming is located at a point enabling communication by radio frequency (F) with the receiver (3) of the said luminous medium (1).

When set up in this way, throughout the sporting event and in accordance with the logical programming, the processor (4) emits a radio frequency signal (F) as shown in Figure 3 which will be received and read by the receiver (3) of the luminous medium (1). In turn the said medium (1) will produce a luminous display by switching on the LEDs arranged in an orderly way to form the image or the logo (M) which has to be displayed, as shown in Figure 4. In this way an effective means of disseminating a plurality of advertising messages is ensured, making use of an essential point, that is the sports net (R), to display the sporting message via LEDs during games of football, tennis, volleyball, etc.

For the system in question it will be obvious that the luminous medium (1) may be obtained from any luminous material such as for example: optical fibre, e-textile, e-mesh, LEDs, electroluminescent wire/fibre, etc. It is also worthwhile pointing out that communication between the processor (4) and the receiver (3) of the luminous medium (1) may be by cable, in some cases resulting in a shorter response time.

Claims

1. A luminous medium applied to a sports net comprising a luminous medium formed of a frame/mesh of optical fibre, e-textile, e-mesh, electroluminescent wire/fibre, etc., or preferably as an arrangement of strips of LEDs arranged so as to light up to reproduce a specific logo, advertising message, information message or the like, the said medium being integrated with a receiver communicating with a processor, the said medium being connected by cable to a source of electrical power and characterised in that it is attached (through fasteners, entwining or other common methods of attachment) to the surface of the mesh of the sports net of the goals for football, handball and other sports or sports nets bounding sectors on the courts for volleyball, tennis and other sports, so that the luminous display is strategically located so as to be seen by the public in arenas, gymnasia, stadia and similar localities, in sporting competitions.

A system for delivering advertising according to the luminous medium in claim 1, the process with its duly defined (dedicated) logical programming being located at a point enabling communication by radio frequency with the receiver of the said luminous medium throughout the entire sporting event, characterised in that when a point is scored (goal, point or other method of counting) the LEDs are switched on forming in an orderly way the image of a log, information or advertising message which has to be delivered.
