Abstract

A device to remind the owner/user of a vehicle to carry out the relevant oil service of the vehicles engine, gearbox and differential, wherein each has their own trigger point relating to the amount of mileage covered between oil changes. The trigger points will also depend upon the vehicle’s manufacture, make and model and specifications e.g. manual and automatic. The device will be inside the vehicle, and a user has the option of entering vehicle registration number and/or chassis number, which will allow the device to locate and programme the device with all the service details e.g. oil type and mileage between services, and reminder settings for the vehicle. The device detects and keeps a record of the vehicle mileage, and may provide three reminders, one at 1,000 miles and another 500 miles prior to the relevant mileage point for the relevant service, and a final reminder at the relevant mileage point. The alerts are highlighted on the device and may also be sent as a text and e-mail simultaneously by the device to the vehicle owner and/or user. The device is powered by solar energy and/or battery and/or by the vehicle’s battery.

Description

Title providing indication of Invention

The Invention relates to a device for acting as a reminder to vehicle owners and/or users to carry out an oil service for their vehicle.

Introduction and background to the invention

Vehicle usage can be tough on the vehicle parts so it is important to take good care of them through regular maintenance - especially as vehicles are an expensive asset. A timely and correct vehicle oil service enables a vehicle owner/user to keep the vehicle in good condition and limit the chances of the vehicle developing into big problems. If the vehicle is in good condition, it will also limit the chances of the vehicle breaking down. Through usage over time the oil becomes thick and greasy which can cause the oil not to circulate properly within the vehicle and this can cause the vehicle's i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential to become seized and/or damaged and/or weak.

A Vehicle Oil Service Reminder will enable the vehicle owner and/or user to be reminded in a timely manner that the vehicle is due for an oil service.

This oil service will be in respect of the vehicle's i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential.

Vehicle owners and/or users can often forget to have the oil service completed on their vehicle(s) at the appropriate and necessary time. Timing is based on the amount of vehicle mileage covered. Recording/noting mileage covered is very important to determine the optimum time to carry out the oil service. It is through mileage covered that then impacts on the vehicle's i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential.

The engine, gearbox and differential will have its own respective trigger points of the amount of mileage covered by which time the oil service will need to be completed upon.

Depending on the vehicle's manufacturer, make and model there are variations of which type of oil to use for the vehicle's i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential. There are also variations depending on the specifications (e.g. manual against automatic). Obtaining the correct oil for the correct variations can often be problematic and time consuming for vehicle owners and/or users.

The device would have an option to enter your vehicle registration number and/or chassis number and this will then locate and prescribe and detail all the necessary reminder settings for the vehicle.

Statement of Invention

A device would be fixed on the inside of the vehicle.

After entering the vehicle's registration number and/or vehicle's chassis number, this will programme the device to the necessary and relevant settings for that vehicle. This will then provide all the necessary and relevant information for that specific vehicle in respect of which specific oil is required for the vehicle's i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential; and it will identify the mileage covered distance point that each of the vehicle's i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential oil needs to be serviced.

Settings will also be programmed for a reminder to be highlighted on the device to remind the vehicle owner and/or user that the vehicle is nearing its appropriate and relevant mileage point for the oil service of the vehicle's respective i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential. Reminders will be alerted to the vehicle owner and/or user 1000 miles prior to the respective, appropriate and relevant mileage point for the oil service and then again 500 miles prior to the respective, appropriate and relevant mileage point for the oil service. This will allow 2 reminders for the vehicle owner and/or user prior to reaching the point that the oil service is required.

A further, and final alert will then be highlighted on the device at the point that the relevant mileage point for service has reached.

The reminders and alerts will not only be visible on the device within the vehicle but through this device a simultaneous reminder and alert will be sent via text and email to the vehicle owner and/or user. So that very vehicle owner and/or user can benefit from this, there will be an option within the device for the vehicle owner and/or user to enter his/her email address and telephone number and an option to edit this to ensure that it is always updated.

The device will be able to detect and keep a record of the vehicle mileage being covered to allow the reminders and alerts to be sent at the appropriate times (i.e. 1000 miles prior to the oil service point, 500 miles prior to the oil service point and then at the relevant mileage point itself).

The device would be powered by solar energy and/or by battery and/or by the vehicle battery.

Claims

1. A device for acting as a reminder to vehicle to vehicle owners and/or users to carry out an oil service for their vehicle's i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential.

2. A device that will enable the vehicle owner and/or user to be reminded in a timely manner, based on mileage covered, that the vehicle's i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential is due for an oil service.

3. A device that will have an option to enter your vehicle registration number and/or chassis number and this will then locate and prescribe all the necessary reminder settings for the owner's and/or user's vehicle - including which oil is required for the respective vehicle's i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential for the owner's/user's specific vehicle.

4. A device that will have an option to enter your vehicle registration number and/or chassis number and this will then locate and prescribe all the necessary reminder settings for the vehicle.

5. A device that would be fixed on the inside of the vehicle.

6. A device that will be programmed to the necessary and relevant settings for that vehicle after entering the vehicle's registration number and/or vehicle's chassis number. This will then provide all the necessary and relevant information for that specific vehicle in respect of which specific oil is required for the vehicle's i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential; and it will identify the mileage covered distance point that each of the vehicle's i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential oil needs to be serviced.

7. A device that will remind the vehicle owner and/or user that the vehicle is nearing its appropriate and relevant mileage point for the oil service of the vehicle's respective i) engine, ii) gearbox and iii) differential. Reminders will be alerted to the vehicle owner and/or user 1000 miles prior to the respective, appropriate and relevant mileage point for the oil service and then again 500 miles prior to the respective, appropriate and relevant mileage point for the oil service. A further, and final alert will then be highlighted on the device at the point that the relevant mileage point for service has reached.

8. A device that will have the reminders and alerts visible on the device within the vehicle and through this device a simultaneous reminder and alert will be sent via text and email to the vehicle owner and/or user (subject to the owner and/or user entering and storing his/her email address and telephone number).

9. A device that will have an option for the vehicle owner and/or user to enter his/her email address and telephone number and an option to edit this to ensure that it is always updated.

10. A device that will be able to detect and keep a record of the vehicle mileage being covered to allow the reminders and alerts to be sent at the appropriate times (i.e. 1000 miles prior to the oil service point, 500 miles prior to the oil service point and then at the relevant mileage point itself).

11. A device that would be powered by solar energy and/or by battery and/or by the vehicle battery.
