Abstract

An angled blade coulter assembly, for drilling furrows for seeds comprises two arms 3 each supporting an angled coulter blade 2. The two angled blades create a V-shape, and cut opposite angled slanted openings in the ground to receive seeds 8 via pipe 19. The arms are connected to a bracket (9, fig 3) attached to a beam 21. A vertical bar (13, fig 3) supports an axle (16, fig 3) with a bearing clamp (17, fig 3) holding a depth wheel (15, fig 3) with a scraper (18, fig 3). The mounting bracket has means for vertical adjustment, and the arm has means for horizontal movement. The angled bar 3 may be adjustable within a range of 5 to 80 degrees. In a second embodiment there may be a single arm holding two coulter blades rather than two separate arms each holding one blade.

Description

Title: Angled lift Blade Coulter opener.
This invention relates to an angled lift blade coulter.
When seeding with a Blade coulter generally the blade is vertical, opening a vertical slot to place the seed, which in certain conditions it can create a smeared slot, or can move the soil sideways or difficult to penetrate leaving it difficult to fill the slot to cover the seed, thus allowing the soil in contact with the seed to dry out, also vertical slots can create an easy route for slug movement.
To overcome this:The present invention proposes an angled lift blade coulter opener which is an improvement on a previous patent application np GB1514065.0.
The angled blade coulter opener creates a slanted angle opening by lifting the soil which requires less energy to penetrate the soil in difficult conditions, the seed is placed under the lifted soil at the deepest part of the angled opening with the forward motion the soil falls back in place covering the seed providing a more uniform covering, more moisture is retained with no direct slot above the seed which helps quick establishment and deters slug movement.
Furthermore by operating two opposing angled lift blade coulter openers with opposite angles forming a close V shape between the blade coulters running in a forward direction together retains the lifted soil within the area of the close V shape, and once seeded is pressed down with the land wheel, leaving a well consolidated level seed bed.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings.
Fig 1 shows a single mounting arm and brackets to attach adjustable vertical drop arm, formed at the lower section with an angle to attach a blade coulter opener.
Fig 2 shows mounting arm and brackets to attach two adjustable vertical drop arms opposite each other with blade coulter openers attached with opposite angles, forming a V shape between the blade coulter openers.
Fig 3 shows a mounting arm and brackets to attach adjustable vertical drop arm with a blade coulter opener and wheel assembly.
Example:
Arm 1 is attached to an implement with bracket 9 with a series of slots and holes which provides height adjustment in the vertical up and down direction, arm 1 is attached with a pin through a hole in the welded side plates 10 and horizontal tube 11 which provides vertical movement up and down, wheel assembly is attached with brackets 13 to arm 1.
An adjustable vertical drop arm 3, formed at the lower section with an angle to attach a blade coulter opener 2, is supported with beam 21, the two adjustable vertical drop arm 3 run together in a forward direction with opposite angles to each blade coulter opener 2, forming a close V shape between the blade coulter openers 2.
Vertical bar 13 attached to arm 1 is supporting an axle 16 with bearing clamping adjustment 17 and wheel 15.
The whole assembly is attached to a seed drill or implement with a seeder attached to the implement with arm 1 and bracket 9 which is pulled over the ground in a forward direction, the down draft from implement and spring 12 attached to front section 1 and arm 1 plus the weight of the assembly causes the angled blade coulter openers 2 to penetrate the ground 6 and create an angled lift 7 the seed 8 is fed down pipe 19 attached to and deposited through the blade coulters 2, placed at the deepest point of the angled opened slanted lift.
A vertical drop arm 13 attached to arm 1 is supporting an axle 16 with bearing clamping adjustment 17 and wheel 15.
Depth and contour vertical up and down control is by wheel 15 and scraper 18 which keeps wheel clean.
