Abstract

The invention relates to apparatus (6) and a method for the control of operation of one or more components (4) of a pipeline, such as a valve, in order to minimise the occurrence of potentially damaging and/or hazardous conditions occurring, such as surge pressures. The method and apparatus allows the detection of the change of condition of the pipeline to be monitored as the operation of the component is performed and compares the live data with predetermined data to determine whether this change in condition of the pipeline is within acceptable limits and, if not, indicates an alert to cause the operation of the component to be altered.
