Abstract

The track 1 comprises a removable receiver within the track into which litter and dirt may be swept for subsequent removal. The track may comprise a spaced pair of elongate vertical side members 2, a horizontal floor member 6 extending between and joining the side members along the length thereof at a position vertically spaced from the bottom edges of the side members. The top members 11 extend horizontally from the upper edges of the side members towards each other to define a slot 12 along the upper face of the track wherein the horizontal floor member has an opening 13 therethrough for receiving an open top receiver. The top members also comprise a removable section corresponding to said receiver to permit removal and reintroduction of the receiver. The removable section of the top member and the receiver may be configured to form a removable unit and the side and floor members may be formed as an integral metal extrusion.

Description

TRACK FOR SUPPORTING AND GUIDING A SECURITY GATE
Field of the Invention
This invention relates to a track for supporting and guiding a security gate.
Background to the Invention
Security gates installed in public passageways such as those leading to underground railways typically have sliding lattice gates suspended from an upper track and guided in bottom track which, in order to avoid presenting a potential trip hazard, is set so that the upper surface of the track is level with the floor of the passageway. This renders the track prone to collecting litter and dirt which can build up until it impedes free movement of the gates. The extraction of the dirt and litter from the track is difficult and time-consuming, thus adding to the maintenance costs for the system
Summary of the Invention
According to the present invention, there is provided a track for supporting and guiding a security gate, comprising a removable receiver within the track into which litter and dirt may be swept for subsequent removal
Preferably the track comprises a spaced pair of elongate vertical side members, a horizontal floor member extending between and joining the side members along the length thereof, at a position vertically spaced from the bottom edges of the side members, and top members extending horizontally from the upper edges of the side members towards each other to define a slot along the upper face of the track, wherein the horizontal floor member has an opening therethrough for receiving an open-top receiver and the top members comprise a removable section corresponding to said receiver to permit removal and reintroduction of the receiver.
A brush may be inserted through the slot and used to sweep any dirt or litter through the opening in the floor member and into the receiver, the removable section of the top members being removed to allow removal of the receiver for emptying. The removable section of the top members and the receiver may be configured to form a removable unit.
- 2 The side members and the floor member are suitably integrally formed as a metal extrusion, for example of aluminium or aluminium alloy, while the top members may consist of angle pieces, for example of stainless steel or other hardwearing metal, screwed to the side members.
The track of the invention can be kept free from build-up of litter and other debris through a simple cleaning operation.
Brief Description of the Drawings
In the drawings, which illustrate an exemplary embodiment of the invention:
Figure 1 is an isometric view of the track of the invention with the removable section separated;
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical section through the track and showing a brush in use; and
Figure 3 is an exploded isometric view of the removable section.
Detailed Description of the Illustrated Embodiment
The track comprises an aluminium or aluminium alloy extrusion 1 having partially hollow side members 2 that are arranged vertically in use, each side member 2 having upper and lower reinforcing webs 3a and 3b therein and a lower flange 4 extending outwardly of the member and in which fixing holes 5 are drilled. A floor member 6 extends between the inner walls of the side members 2 at a position corresponding to the inner side of the upper webs 3a, while a corresponding web 7 extends below the floor member 6 and parallel with it, at a position corresponding with the inner side of the lower webs 3b. Each side member 2 has along the upper part thereof a solid portion 8, the upper edge of which defines the floor level of the installed track. Inwardly of the solid portion 8 a rib 9 defines a groove 10 in which is received a respective top member 11 in the form of stainless steel angle pieces having a vertical leg 11a and a horizontal leg 11 b. The top members 11 are attached at intervals by screws (not shown) to the solid portions 8 and extend horizontally towards each other so as to define between them a slot 12 which guides and holds pegs or runners at the bottom of the lattice gates.
-3At a position along the length of the track, conveniently the centre, a section of the floor member 6 is cut away to leave an opening 13 and a smaller section of the web 7 is removed from beneath the opening 13, corresponding portions of the top members 11 also being omitted. A removable unit 14 is located in the opening 13. With reference to Figure 3, the removable unit 14 consists of a metal frame 15 which passes through the opening 13 to be secured with screws 16a passing through the countersunk holes 16b. The frame 15 has upstanding side members 17 to which short sections of stainless steel angle pieces 18 corresponding to the top members 11 can be secured by screws 19, spacer members 20 ensuring correct positioning of these. A receiver 21 corresponding in area with the opening in the frame 15 has a perforated base 22 to allow drainage of liquids there through and a pair of arms 23 upstanding from opposed sides for attachment by screws 24 to the side members 17 of the frame 15. In its position in the opening 13, the removable unit 14 locates with the vertical parts of the angle pieces 18 resting in the grooves 10 so that the top surface of the frame 15 is level with the floor web 6. The spacer members 20 rest on the ribs 9, offering additional support to hold the angle pieces 18 firm when stepped on.
A brush 25 (Figure 2) has a handle 25a and a brush head 25b dimensioned for passage through the slot 12, the head having a length such that, when it has been passed through the slot it can be rotated to sweep the full width of the floor member 6 within the track. Litter and dirt can be swept along the track to fall into the receiver 21. To empty the receiver 21, the unit 14 is removed from the track by removing the screws 16a and then lifting the unit out (the brush 25 may be used to facilitate this). The receiver 21 can then be separated from the unit 14 by removing the screws 24. When the litter and dirt has been emptied out of the receiver, it will be reattached to the unit 14, which is then dropped back into the opening 13 and reattached by the screws 16a. The opposite end of the brush may conveniently be provided with a scraper for moving any material resistant to the effect of the brush head 25b.
