Abstract

The application concerns a heave compensation and riser tensioning system and method for an offshore drilling or production operation comprising at least one motor assembly, wherein the motor assembly (10) comprising at least one motor (1,1'); a drum assembly bracket (5); at least one wire drum (3, 3'); at least one wire rope (2, 2'), the at least one wire rope having a first end which is fixedly attached to the wire drum, and a second end fixedly attached to a riser tension ring (41 ); and the at least one motor (1,1') being coupled to the at least one wire drum (3, 3') via a gear assembly. Further, the application concerns a method for providing tension or heave compensation in an offshore drilling environment.
