Multi Clip with spacer for hung objects
A new and improved safety hook is disclosed which enables simple and secure hanging of all sorts of items. Its primary use is to hold light weight metal wire baskets, for use in bathrooms or kitchens. It can also be used to hold other light weight objects which may or may not have special means for being suspended on a hook.
The basic realisation of this multi-clip comprises a baseplate with two hooks standing out of the plane of said base plate, which hooks have upturned ends and are located at the bottom of said baseplate, when said clip is attached for use to a wall or other upstanding structure. Said two hooks may be moulded in one piece with said baseplate or formed separately to be clipped into appropriate apertures on said baseplate. In said latter case, a cover plate provided helps to hold said loose hooks in place.
Said base plate further comprises a pair of attachment apertures for attaching the clip to a vertical structure such as a wall or a door or similar. Said attachment apertures are of the standard figure eight shape for the introduction of a screw head and pulling downwards to catch the screw head in the smaller upper part of said attachment apertures.
Moreover, said baseplate further comprises a pair of rails positioned parallel to each other and in between the attachment apertures. The surfaces facing each other of said rails comprise downward pointing teeth which engage with matching teeth on a third hook, identical to the first two but oriented upside down relative to the first two hooks, and enabling said third hook to slide up and down in between said pair of rails and forming a type of closed claw, when slid all the way down.
To hold the sliding hook in place, a cover plate is provided which clips over said base plate. Said cover plate shows a slot, oriented vertically when the clip in in use, in which slot said third hook is guided and prevented from disengaging from said pair of rails.
Snap fastener is provided at the bottom of said cover plate, again when the clip is in use, which allows said cover plate to be snapped over said baseplate and held firmly in place.
This basic version of our Multi Clip is shaped as an ellipse and measures substantially 55 mm in height and substantially 40 mm across when it is fixed for use. Naturally, the base and cover plates may be shaped in any other form, if desired.
It can be moulded in hard plastic, such as Bakelite or in metallised plastic or even in chrome/nickel coated aluminium or similar light metal.
Whilst the basic version (Version 1) of this inventive clip will suffice for most light objects, a more substantial realisation is also disclosed. This heavier version (Version 2) sits on a baseplate of slightly larger dimensions and is preferably square with round corners. The preferred dimensions for this larger version (Version 2) are substantially 60 by 60 mm and have a more substantial thickness of about 6 mm.
But, of course, the dimensions are only a guide and circumstances may require a larger baseplate dimension.
The configuration of Version 2 is similar to the basic one (Version 1) by comprising said baseplate, two hooks at the bottom edge, well-spaced apart, two attachment apertures of the standard shape and two rails which are spaced wider apart than on the basic version.
The outstanding feature different to said basic version (Version 1) consists of two inverted hooks set between said two rails, which two hooks are interconnected such that they move in unison up and down along said baseplate.
Said two rails allow for the twin upturned hooks to be spaced such that when pushed down to their lowest level, pass in between said two fixed hooks and in this way hold an object securely in the double bottom hooks forming two horizontally adjacent claws
This heavier version (Version 2) allows for more sideways stability when supporting objects of wider dimensions, thus alleviating the need for two multi clips mounted side by side, which would be needed with said basic version (Version 1). And, of course, all elements of this heavier version (Version 2) are also stronger so as to safely carry heavier objects.
This arrangement is particularly useful for supporting wire baskets for accommodating bathroom or kitchen paraphernalia, such as soap, shampoo bottles and similar items which usually are awkward to store.
A useful adjunct to said Version2 of the Multi Clip is a specially designed spacer which enables objects such as wire baskets being supported with the top of said baskets remaining horizontal.
Said spacer can be clipped onto the bottom of said basket and adjusted by twisting until the distance between the wall and the bottom of said basket is such that said basket hangs with its top surface horizontal.
Naturally, the number of sliding additional hooks is not limited to one or two, but may be three or even more and still falling within the bounds of the invention. Similarly for the fixed hooks.
Statement of the invention.
A multi clip is disclosed which comprises a baseplate, a cover plate, at least two hooks with their ends upturned attached to the bottom of the baseplate, when the multi clip is in position for use, at least one additional hook similar to the first at least two, but mounted upside down, i.e. inverted, which said at least one additional hook is set in between two rails in such a way that said at least one additional hook can slide along said rails to form, when descended, a claw which can grip securely an object between said at least two bottom hooks and said at least one additional hook and where said cover plate is clipped over the base plate to hold said at least one additional hook securely on said baseplate and at the same time allowing said at least one additional hook to slide up and down between said rails and where a special spacer is provided to ensure correct position of any object suspended from the clip.

Figure 31 shows the mounting apertures (4), the lower hooks (1) and the rails (14) on which additional hook (2) (not shown) slides up and down. Figs 32 & 33 and 34 & 35 show sections of the base plate (12), left and right and top and bottom respectively. Similarly to sheets 2 and 3, figure 36 shows the underside of base plate (12).
Sheet 4 shows the basic version (Version 1) of the Multi Clip supporting various objects. In each individual drawing, the additional hook (2) is shown in its upper position, i.e. open claw. To secure the object in place, additional hook (2) is slid downwards as far as possible to trap the object in the now closed claw.
Sheet 5 shows the base plate of the heavier version (Version 2) of the Multi Clip. Its essential difference to Version 1 consists of two additional hooks (2), inverted and movable in unison up and down the two rails (14), which in this version are spaced wider apart.
The two additional hooks (2) are interconnected and move up and down between said rails (14). The sides of the rails facing each other comprise downward pointing teeth (15) to allow additional hooks (2) to slide downward, but restrain said hooks from sliding upwards.
To slide said additional hooks (2) back up, the interconnection is slightly flexible to allow said additional hooks to be forced closer together, partially disengage from the teeth and be moved upward for releasing the object carried by the Multi Clip.
Sheet 6 shows the cover plate for the heavier version (Version 2) and the additional hooks separately. It also shows the specially designed spacer (16) with attachment slot (18) which helps to level objects supported by means of the Multi Clip as illustrated on sheet 7.
Sheet 7 shows two different objects carried by the heavier version (Version 2) of Multi Clip and illustrates the use of the specially designed spacer (16). Each object is shown side view and front view.
