Abstract
An insert is provided to fit within the cup holder of a car or automobile. A mobile phone or smart phone may be placed directly in the insert Figure 1a or located in a secondary insert to suit a specific model of phone. The insert(s) may be provided with connectors A, B, C, to charge the battery of the phone via a USB port, see also Figure 5. The insert may be provided with a lid having a clip, Figure 2a that may be released by a key of the vehicle, Figures 2b and 3. The phone may be contained in the insert with the lid securely closed to prevent use of the phone whilst the vehicle is being driven.

(54) Title of the Invention: Mobisafe - mobile phone secure storage device Abstract Title: Vehicle cup holder insert having locking cell phone holder (57) An insert is provided to fit within the cup holder of a car or automobile. A mobile phone or smart phone may be placed directly in the insert Figure 1a or located in a secondary insert to suit a specific model of phone. The insert(s) may be provided with connectors A, B, C, to charge the battery of the phone via a USB port, see also Figure 5. The insert may be provided with a lid having a clip, Figure 2a that may be released by a key of the vehicle, Figures 2b and 3. The phone may be contained in the insert with the lid securely closed to prevent use of the phone whilst the vehicle is being driven.

Principal of Design
The use of mobile phones while driving vehicles is a common but illegal practice in the UK and other counties. It is widely considered that the mobile phone use is a habit for many people and as such cannot be easily stopped when in a vehicle without the temptation being removed. This invention is intended to physically remove the temptation of using a mobile phone by offering a secure storage of the phone while a vehicle is in use.
This mobile phone secure storage device (SSD) to be known as a MobiSafe is designed to sit within a standard cup holder present in most vehicles. The cup holder storage device enables users to conveniently lock their mobile device away during journeys to prevent its use whilst maintaining Bluetooth or other wireless connectivity with in-car systems.
The secure mobile phone secure storage device, in its most basic form, comprises a cup of a standard size to fit universal in-vehicle cup holders within which is mounted a universal mobile phone slot which is designed to take most standard mobile phones. This slot can be adapted to different phone types by inserting a type-specific phone model insert. The inserts form part of this application but wiil be described in more detail separately within this application. The inserts need not be used but enhance the basic design and add further functionality hen incorporated into more advanced models of the basic MobiSafe design.
The basic design concept is illustrated in figure 1 and shows the cup profile of the main body and the mobile phone slot within. The slot is within the internal area of the cup will hold a mobile phone in the upright position.
The cup has dimensions of a universal vehicle cup holder and is designed to be placed within the vehicle cup holder for security.
Although the design shows fixed dimensions the design concept is such that it can be produced an a variety of different dimensions and design to suit application and i nd ivid u a ί ta s t e/choice.
Secure Lid Design Concept
The design will incorporate a lid which can be closed and locked to secure the mobile phone and place it out of sight and temptation. .
Lid Design
The hinged iid closes over the top of the cup in much the same way as a standard disposable cup lid. The lid is locked with a simple internal 'clip' lock. Release ofthe locking mechanism can only be achieved by insertion of a vehicle key into the universal Quick Release Slot (QRS). Figure 2a illustrates the hinge dosing principle and Figure 2L illustrates the location of Quick Release Slot which is designed to be opened with the vehicle key..
Locking of the lid is achieved through a simple clip lock which can only be released by inserting a vehicle ignition key into the universal key slot on the top of the lid - the theory being that the Secure Storage Device cannot be opened when the vehicle is in motion as the key is in the ignition.

The Quick Release Slot (QRS) is a sir rple toggle device which is locked through downward pressure of the Mobisa insertion of a vehicle ignition key.

The QRS is a simple hinged catch which is tensioned to the closed position in normal condition. When a vehicle key is inserted into the slot at the top of the QRS the spring is compressed and the hinged catch is physically forced to the open position releasing the spring mounted lid of the MobiSafe.
The Mobile Phone Insert
The MobiSafe mobile phone Secure Storage Device is designed to be customised to a specific type of mobile phone through the use of an insert (MobiSert). The mobile phone type-specific inserts, which are also part of this patent application, will slot into the main insert to tailor the device to individual mobile phone types. This is illustrated at Figure 4.
Connectivity to in car systems/charging via top-mounted USB input.
This enhancement to the basic design offers in-vehicle charging and in-car connectivity options via a top mounted USB device.
This is achieved through the addition of:
A- Phone specific male connector at the base of the MobiSert insert, facing upwards into the insert to connect to the phone of choice female connector/charging point. This is hardwired to:
B- A male USB connector in base of MobiSert facing out of the insert to connect to female USB connector in base of MobiSafe Secure Storage Device
C- A universal USB Female connector at base of MobiSafe Secure Storage Device.

This is hard wired within the body of the MobiSafe Safe Storage male connector (shown as D below) mounted just below the rim will enable the MobiSafe Safe Storaqe Device to be connected tc charging point or AV equipment using a standard USB cable.
Enhanced Connectivity Options - In Vehicle Enhancement to accommodate MobiSafe Secure Storage Device.
By the introduction of a further USB connector in the external base of the Mobisafe Secure Storage Device it is possible to connect the SSD directly into in-vehicle charging and system through a USB mounted in the base of the Cup Holder. This option removes the need for a USB cable but relies on the vehicle manufacturer installing a USB/mini USB connector at the base of the cup holder within the vehicle.
USB mounted at base of vehicle cup holder allows direct connectivity of MobiSafe SSD into in-vehicle systems and charging via USB mounted at the bottom of the Mobisafe SSD.

- ClaimsClaims 1. This design offers the facility to safely store a mobile phone device securely within the universal cup holder of any vehicle. Taking the device out of sight and away from temptation of the driver.
- Claim 2. The design takes the same shape and form of a standard large drinking or coffee cup allowing it to fit all vehicles.
- Claim 3. The design offers external connectivity to in-vehicle systems via USB connectors to allow phone charging.
